After the ‘warm-up’ song ‘My Type‘ topped charts and music shows without the guys even promoting it, YG Entertainment‘s highly anticipated rookies, iKON have served fans with not only one, but two dynamite comeback title tracks “Airplane” and “Rhythm Ta“.
The first music video released was ‘Airplane’. It’s laid-back soothing yet mellow hip-hop vibe gives you that head-nodding kind of feel making this perfect for those who like mellow ballads with a touch of hip-hop beat. The song was written by B.I. and Bobby with the help of YG’s staff songwriter-producer P.K. (Future Bounce).
The music video depicts a typical story of love lost and letting someone go. Just a heads up, you better check out the music video as soon as possible before Mr. Airplane leaves with them in it!
‘Rhythm Ta’ on the hand, is the upbeat and powerful song the world was anticipating. It leads off with a rich trap-like, bass-boosted beat that makes you want to crank the volume up and bounce with it. It is the track everyone was looking for from iKON and, when compared with the cutesy appetizer ‘My Type’ and the balld-like ‘Airplane’, ‘Rhythm Ta’ somehow seems to reveal the true color of iKON. This song was also written by Bobby and B.I. with the help of P.K, but this time they also got the assistance of fellow iKON member Junhoe.
The video features Chicago Bulls-like jerseys that sport the members names and numbers on them (that some how also remind me of Team Shohoku of the well-known manga ‘Slam Dunk‘); smoking hot sports cars; explosive choreography; flashy outfits and even a cute British bulldog. From start to finish, this video is one hell of a ride so buckle-up once again and dance with the boys of iKON!
As of this writing, the half-album is already slaying charts by charts digitally and expected to trend for the foreseeable future! It seems like YG is treating iKON’s debut like a basketball game, going easy in the warm up and coming out strong in the first quarter. The next release is scheduled for the 2nd of November and it is safe to say that fans will be anxiously awaiting what the guys have in store. In the meantime, check out their official Facebook page here and don’t forget to purchase a digital copy of their debut half album ‘Welcome Back‘ on iTunes here. Their debut concert ‘Showtime‘ is on October 3rd with the physical album releasing on the 5th.
