Yesterday, September 27th, Jay Park Performed at the Dallas Brooks Centre in East Melbourne.
This day was by far one of the happiest days of my life, and the lives of many other ‘JAYWALKERS‘ living in Melbourne Australia. I got the chance to represent Kmusic and interview Jay Park in the comfort of his hotel room as well as attend his highly anticipated concert at the Dallas Brooks Centre.
Before the show, Jay Park gave a short and sweet shout out to Aussie JAYWALKERS and Kmusic.
The full interview should be up soon but, for now, lets talk about the concert! Excitement was high as the venue was filled by fans that were there for none other than Jay Park! Sitting patiently, they all were ready for this amazing concert to begin.
Finally, the show began with the debut of the Melbourne Based Korean group ‘Chill.’ For a rookie group they were definitely receiving an enormous amount of cheers and love from the audience as they performed a few of their new tracks and including a short cover performance of ‘Tomorrow’ by Tablo and Taeyang.
Before Jay Park officially stepped onto the stage, host MyChonny got the crowd hyped up by giving away a few signed Jay Park t-shirts. Now of course there was a catch! In order to win the t shirt the 3 fans who got randomly picked had to do the Gangnam style dance. Lucky contestant number 3 was able to walk away with the t-shirt but awesome effort from the other two none the less.
Following all of the laughter and commotion, Jay Park’s concert began with a solo dance performance from none other than Prepix! The four dancers pumped up the stage with their amazing dance which lead the way to ear shattering screams as Jay Park graced the stage.
Jay Park definitely chose the perfect song as his opening number since ‘Nothing on you’ gained him enormous popularity with over 2 million views in less than 24 hrs. This performance was then followed by ‘Girlfriend’ and ‘Abandoned.’ After an amazing opening, he began to converse with his fans about the weather and saying how it was that he finally got a chance to come to Melbourne!
With the fans screaming in excitement and a few “please get naked” comments, Jay Park kept the energy going through his performance of ‘AOM & Illionaire’ and my personal favourite ‘I got your back’ off his first album. This was followed on with ‘Do what we do’, ‘I love you’ and ‘Being carefree’.
Seeing that it was a warm 27 degrees in Melbourne and because of his strong performance, Jay Park took a quick 5 minute break to get changed and left the stage with his amazing back up dancers Prepix to perform yet another amazing dance. They stepped out onto the stage with white masks that reminded me of the Jabbawockeez, and popped and locked their way through the crazy screams of the fans.
After a short while, Jay Park returned to the stage in a fluro yellow jacket and continued on with ‘Enjoy the show’, a cover of Jay Sean’s ‘Down’ and then Ushers ‘You got it bad.’ Now this wasn’t just any cover performance it was THE performance, as it was the moment every single fan was waiting for. Within a few minutes into the song Jay Park ripped his white tank top apart and showed his stunning physique. Abs, Abs and more abs! This sent the crowd into a total frenzy with screams most likely reaching 130dBA or more!! My ear drums were about to burst! He performed the rest of the song topless, but to everyone’s disappointment he grabbed a black tank top to put on and said “I can’t perform half naked for the whole concert!”
After a heart achingly amazing performance of ‘You got it bad’ he continued with ‘Up and down,’ the title track off his album New Breed ‘Know your name,’ and then a remixed version of ‘Know your name.”
I found that during his entire performance, every now and then you’d see him working the stage with his awesome moves and sticking out his tongue at the same time. It’s so adorable to see this in person!
The moment came when Jay Park performed his last song for the night which was ‘Body2Body.’ But before singing the song he took out some awesome shades and said “it’s not sunny but it matches the style you know…”, the crowd laughed hilariously but quickly changed into screams when he had the sunnies on, looking totally cool!
When the song ended he said his goodbyes, took his top off again to please the fans and then left the stage.
I would have to say that he is truly an amazing performer and hands down one of the best dancers out there. His lyrical hip-hop and B-Boy style really shines through and ads that extra impact to his already amazing performance.
Check out his performance of “Know Your Name” below.
Thank you to Jay Park and his team for holding this event and this is one concert that I’ll remember forever.
