When it came to the demands of the entertainment industry as a woman, Jessi has been vocal about how ruthless it can really be. On a recent appearance on KBS’s “Happy Together” on April 2nd, the performer got real and personal when the subject directed its way to a controversial subject; plastic surgery.
Along with the topic, photos of a young Jessi was brought up on the screen, everyone on the panel couldn’t help but comment about how pretty and vibrant she looked in the photos. The comments resulted to Jessi bursting out saying, “I regret it too!” causing everyone to break out in laughter.
Jessi explained to the MC’s that the procedures done on her eyes and nose were done 3 years ago. Many have assumed that she had plastic surgery recently, it is important to keep in mind that Jessi has been out of the public light for a while and is just now slowly coming back due to the recognition she’s received from Unpretty Rapstar. Jessi told her story behind the procedures, her company deemed her not very photogenic or beautiful by their standards, “I didn′t do it because I wanted to do. There was my agency and I wasn′t really photogenic.” MC Yoo Jae Suk, appeared baffled because in the photos there is clearly a young girl who is very pretty. When confronted about this, Jessi fired back, “I want to take it all out too!”. One regret Jessi has was getting rid of her eye smile, “My company CEO said that I would be less fierce if I got my eyes done…but after I got it done, I got even more fierce-looking. He couldn′t say anything after that.”
While Jessi does look beautiful in her pre-debut photos, she is still very talented and beautiful now. It is amazing how open she is about plastic surgery while many others tend to shy away from the subject. Jessi has been vocal about the struggles of debuting and has been real with viewers as if trying to remind them that dreams have a price. Regardless of Jessi’s hardened image, she is a good role model since she doesn’t try to make things sound like sunshine and roses, but chooses instead to tell it as it is. Usually when idols complain about their entertainment company, it’s usually about dating, work load etc but never the grime and the real dirt of it all and that’s what she does. Jessi has literally lived P!NK’s music video “Don’t Let Me Get Me”.

Also, here is a video to show her journey as an artist and her evolution into an individual who can say no to the demands of the entertainment industry. It isn’t a K-pop video in the traditional sense, but I feel it represents her well:
