Following a lengthy hiatus due to health issues, JinE has elected to leave Oh My Girl.
JinE has not promoted with Oh My Girl since August 2016, as she has been seeking treatment for anorexia nervosa. Her agency WM Entertainment released a statement on October 30th confirming that JinE had left Oh My Girl, and her contract with the company had been terminated. The statement read:
Hello, this is WM Entertainment.
First of all, we sincerely thank those fans who treasure and love Oh My Girl.
Our company’s artist Oh My Girl member JinE has been inactive for the past year due to health problems.
During this time, both the rest of the Oh My Girl members and the agency have seen JinE‘s recovery as our top priority.
However, following long discussions, we have decided to respect JinE‘s opinion as she not only has physical issues but also wants to pursue a new career.
As a result, we now inform you that JinE‘s exclusive contract with WM Entertainment has been terminated.
We ask that you continue to support JinE as she pursues her new dream, as well as Oh My Girl who will continue to promote as seven members.
JinE has also since reached out to fans, posting a long handwritten letter to Oh My Girl‘s official homepage on October 31.
The letter reads:
Hello, this is JinE.
It has been a long time since I last wrote to you.
How are you? I have been inactive for a long time, but your support has helped me feel stronger and healthier!
I have spent a lot of time thinking and worrying, but I haven’t ever felt alone. The support of our Miracles and the other Oh My Girl members has given me a lot of strength!
Because you have shown me so much love and helped me to live out my dream, I am both so thankful and very sorry to Miracles…
And to the members I have been with for a long time… I will always remember all eight members of Oh My Girl cheering each other on. I’m very thankful to you and sorry for making you worry.
I wanted to thank and apologize to everyone.
I’m sure many people will be surprised at my decision, but I wanted to thank and apologize to the Oh My Girl members who have supported me.
This was something I had dreamed about for a long time, so I really wanted to do well. However, my body and mind were not in the right place… During my hiatus, I had time to relax and think hard, and after many days of deliberation, I have decided to make the decision now…
It’s been a long time since I last greeted fans, but this greeting will be my last as Oh My Girl‘s JinE…
I would like to return to my daily lifestyle and take on a new dream that is more fitting for my age.
Knowing that Miracles will be upset makes my heart hurt, but I will remember the times I have spent with Miracles as a member of Oh My Girl forever. I hope you all have good memories too! I think your support will be a great strength for me in the future too!
Our Oh My Girl! Hyojung, Mihyun (Mimi), SiA (YooA), Seunghee, Jiho, Yubin (Binnie), and Yewon (Arin)… Each member of Oh My Girl has their own color which makes Oh My Girl shine brightly. In addition, I feel very happy to have grown up alongside you all. Standing onstage singing Oh My Girl‘s songs, the cheers of our Miracles sometimes made me want to cry…
Although I will miss these memories, I will always cheer for Oh My Girl louder than anyone else!
I’d like to ask you to support me as I start my new path, step by step, apart from Oh My Girl. And please always show your support and love for our Oh My Girl members!
Finally, to the Oh My Girl members, our Miracles, my family, friends, and the WM family who have stayed by my side until now, thank you.
I’m sorry and thankful! I love you all! Always.
As JinE continues to focus on her recovery and Oh My Girl continues with seven members, we wish both JinE and Oh My Girl the best for the future.
