JYP Entertainment’s CEO, JYP (Park Jin-young) was recently interviewed by American news outlet, CNBC. In English, JYP discussed the concept of K-pop, and the future of the K-pop industry.
When asked if K-pop was organic, JYP said, “We’ve developed a system. Companies like ours have an academy, a sort of training system, to find young, talented kids and pull out the best in them. It started off organic, but we systematized it.”
What has JYP been up to recently? Well, he’s been traveling throughout China this past month in a camping car to scout for new talent for an upcoming Chinese boy group. Instead of hitting the big cities like Beijing and Shanghai, he chose to scout for talent in smaller cities.
Interestingly enough, we also learned that JYP likes to listen to oldies tunes from the 70s and 80s. He says that the music from that era is musically “richer” with “more guitar…[and] more keyboard.” He also has been listening to current artists such as Bruno Mars, Drake, and Rihanna! Good music choices JYP!
