A band known for their catchy and chart topping hits, popular band FT.Island returns to sunny Singapore for their 6th year anniversary concert. Taking place at The Singapore Indoor Stadium on the 8th of March, the band held a press conference on the 7th of March at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. Looking sharp in their black suits, FT.Island greeted and introduced themselves to the media.
To start things off, the boys were asked how they felt about coming back to Singapore after two years. FT.Island lead vocalist Hongki replied, “Its freezing cold in Korea right now so coming to a warm country like Singapore is good but… its a little too hot!” his reply sparked laughter from the crowd and the MC suggested for them to wear less to conquer the heat.
Anticipating a great show from the band, they were then asked if special performances had been prepared for their concert and Hongki shared how their anniversary concert tour was planned out specially by all five members and he hoped for fans to just relax and enjoy the concert with them.
The band’s bassist Jaejin also added how thankful they are for all the support they’ve gotten from fans thus far and that their anniversary concert centers around them showing their gratitude to their fans.
Asked about the struggles they’ve overcome since their debut, Hongki replied, “There are both good and bad things. Being the first idol band to debut in Korea, there were a lot of uncertainties and it took sometime before we could settle in and be comfortable where we are right now. As we are now at a bigger stage of our careers, we are able to do the type of music we want to do and to be able to put out something that is really from the soul. Even though we are a little worried of the outcome, we hope that you will be able to enjoy our music”
Hongki went on to share about how they were being stereotyped as they were young when they debuted and how people doubted they would last throughout the industry. The boys then talked about their new album where every member was given the chance to have all their ideas and taste in music be included in the album.
The MC then commented that today was an extra special day as it was Leader Jonghoon‘s birthday and wished him a ‘Happy Birthday‘. Known to fans that he had been working out recently, Jonghoon was asked if he would reveal his abs. With a sheepish smile he replied, “I’m not ready to show everyone my abs and if I do, it is because its my birthday”
Apart from their anniversary concert, Jaejin and Hongki are also involved in a drama that is currently airing in Korea. Having sang the OST for ‘Bride of The Century‘, Jaejin was asked his thoughts on Hongki’s acting. “Hongki was a little awkward in the first few episodes and you don’t see him being chic in his day to day life. As the show progresses, I could see him getting into the role and being a natural at it.” Hongki, who is always ready with a witty reply added, “For someone who has been around me for sometime, they will probably find it awkward but for those who are seeing me act for the first time would think that I’m a natural” adding a hearty laugh at the end of his remark.
The boys once again showed their appreciation for being able to comeback to Singapore and for everyone who will be present at their concert to have good fun.
The press conference ended with a photo-call and we would like to thank ONE Production for inviting us to this event.
