Six years since his last time performing in the U.S., BANG YONGGUK has returned as part of his first solo world tour, The Colors of BANG YONGGUK. From early morning, fans already began lining up down the block, donning purple outfits – the show’s color scheme – along with several Matoki lightsticks and other B.A.P memorabilia.
The weather itself was less than ideal with mixtures of rain and heat, but fans braved through it regardless to see their favorite artist on the first stop of the tour. Opening the show was DJ Sam Kim, who had a short but effective set as he got the crowd pumped up for what was to come. Less than fifteen minutes after the end of the DJ’s set, BANG YONGGUK strolled on stage as the room echoed with a mixture of screams and shouts. The rapper went through songs such as “B.M.T,” “Up,” and “Race,” showing off his musical style that fuses R&B, Hip Hop, and Jazz. Also featured on the setlist were songs “Rain On Me,” “I Remember,” and “Green,” which originally feature other artists, but were remastered to allow for solo performances on the tour. Prior to the song “Green,” YONGGUK made sure to mention and thank the crowd for the sea of Matoki lightsticks that lit up the venue, emphasizing his sincerity.
The show carried a wide range of emotions throughout the night, but it wasn’t until the performance of “야해 (YA)” that the temperature literally rose. To extinguish the heat, YONGGUK took a bottle of water, and proceeded to douse himself with it, giving fans an up close glimpse of his abs along with a few body rolls. Not wanting to leave the fans out, the rapper also sprayed bottles of water into the crowd. While the night itself was too short, it came to a faux finish with “YAMAZAKI” and “Orange Drive,” but soon after ended with the encore performances of “XIE XIE” and “See You Later.”
Marking the end of the first night on his tour, BANG YONGGUK truly left a lasting impression on attendees. Although it was the end of the night, it was also only just the beginning, as YONGGUK will continue through the remaining nine stops of his tour in the U.S. before officially starting the Europe and Asia legs of his world tour.
