Representing Korea, the angelic girls of AOA aced their performance at the multi-national music mania – Sundown Festival 2013 in Singapore on November 16th.
On its fifth run this year, Sundown Festival 2013 is the biggest of its kind thus far. In 2009, the festival started with the theme Seoul’dOut! that focused on all things Korean. The annual music extravaganza snowballed the participating Asian countries tally to eight this year, with 10 headlining acts! The event not only aims to celebrate Asian music and culture by turning the spotlight to this part of the world, it also hopes to unite the culturally diversified Asia with music.
Music fanatics were treated to an eight-hour plethora of performances by the Japanese boy bands Screw and D=OUT, TVB actor/singer Bosco Wong of Hong Kong, Taiwanese Mandopop prince Yoga Lin, sweetheart vocal powerhouse Adonia Shao Yu Han from China, band NIDJI from Indonesia, Thai band No More Tear, rock icon Rico Blanco and band Rocksteddy from the Philippines, and of course the unique versatile band and K-Pop idol group AOA.
In fact, AOA eye candies Ji Min, Chan Mi, Yu Na, Hyejeong, Cho A, Min A and Youkyoung (missing Seol Hyun who will join the group at the concert) already arrived in town on November 14th, before joining the nine other much-anticipated talent line-ups at the Sundown Festival 2013 Press Conference on Nov 15 at the Marina Mandarin Hotel.
Looking fabulous in simple white tops and skinny jeans, the girls greeted the media warmly – complete with the adorable ‘wings’ hand sign!
Returning Singapore for the second time, AOA shared that they are delighted and greatly honored to be able to represent Korea for the Sundown Festival this year; “We prepared a lot for this performance, so please enjoy the performance!”
So as the Ace of Angels (AOA), which member has the most angelic personality? Giggling and without hesitation, the girls went, “We are all angelic.” More laughter evoked when AOA was asked how they maintain their shapely legs, of which leader Ji Min shared, “We eat healthy, we dance a lot and we exercise a lot. So maybe that’s how…”
Finally, as a versatile and talented group, AOA has a 5-member band AOA Black and a 7-member idol unit. Fans are probably curious if the future holds any possibility of an AOA comeback as one team with all 8 members. The girls expressed that “Right now, we are still performing as two different units. While we do not have any fixed plans at the moment, we are keen and will look forward to it!”
Separately, the various artistes across Asia also brought their diverse charisma and great humor to the session. Members of Indo band NIDJI were really cheery and showed great chemistry and brotherhood, with members revealing their leader’s love to throw his underwear all over the place. On the other hand, leader of Japanese band D=OUT, Kouki, took so much interest in the adorable sponsored Jabra speakers on the press conference table that the emcee said he could have the merchandise. Sure enough, Kouki left the room happily with the speakers!
Onwards to the event day, festival-goers were burning up at the Marina Promenade with the non-stop stream of rock and pop from all the talented performers from around Asia – a total ear orgasm!
Intense cheering welcomed AOA Black, who took the stage first with ‘Get Out’ and ‘MOYA’. Performing live as a band is certainly no easy feat, but members Ji Min (guitar, rap), Cho A (guitar, vocals), Yu Na (keyboard, vocals), Min A (bass, rap) and Youkyoung (drum) shown they lack neither talent nor energy! Vocally on the point were Cho A and Yu Na, and we just cannot help but to comment how amazing Ji Min’s rap is. Who knows rapping in such an adorable voice can be so incredibly refreshing!
Already pumped with adrenaline, the crowd rejoiced once again when Chan Mi, Hyejeong, as well as Seol Hyun joined the girls on stage for the next leg of the performance.
In English, Yu Na called out, “Hello everyone, we are Ace of Angels!” Ji Min then surprised everyone with a fluent, and of course, full of aegyo greeting in Mandarin, “We are so glad to be in Singapore again! Nice to meet you!” while Cho A greeted everyone in Japanese.
Well, AOA’s shapely and toned legs certainly showed during their upbeat routines for fans’ all time favorite ‘Love is Only You’ and their debut track ‘Elvis’! The sexy and catchy tune of ‘Elvis’ brought the atmosphere to a new high. If that is not enough, AOA capped off their performance with a ‘leggy’ performance of their latest comeback ‘Confused’!
While a pity that AOA was only able to perform five songs this round as part of the concert, fans still had a great night. Let’s hope AOA return to the sunny island soon with a full-fledged showcase!
KMUSIC would like to extend our special thanks to Red Spade Entertainment, FNC Entertainment and MSL Singapore for the great invitation.
