Finally making her solo debut, CHUU will be embarking on a U.S. tour this December to pair with her first single “Howl.” The album and tour – both of the same name – aim to showcase the singer’s talents and charms, and to help the singer greet her fans, known as KKOTI. Prior to the beginning of the tour, Officially Kmusic spoke with CHUU about Howl – the song, the album, and the tour.
Congratulations on your first solo U.S. tour! What are you most excited for during your tour, aside from seeing your fans? Is there anything you want to see, do, or eat in any of the cities you’re visiting?
Of course, I am so excited to finally see the many faces of U.S. KKOTI and to sing for them the songs from my solo album. I haven’t been to the States much, so I am looking forward to exploring the vibes of each city, eating good food, and making new memories. More specifically, I would love to eat some good quality steaks, and visit cute stores! And I’d also love to receive some recommendations for local restaurants from our U.S. KKOTI.
Why did the timing feel right to embark on your first tour now?
Well, I’ve always had a strong desire to meet my overseas fans. And with the release of my solo debut album, Howl, I was able to begin in the USA. I am so grateful for this precious opportunity, and I am happily doing my best to prepare for the tour!
Your first solo album Howl was also just released! How long of a process was it to make this album?
I think the preparation for the album began right after I signed with ATRP, and things got a lot busier about three months before the official release. As this is my first solo album, it is filled with a lot of love and sincerity.
Were there any other potential songs that you recorded or were in the process of recording that did not make it into the album? How did you decide on the songs in the tracklist? What kind of story were you trying to tell with this album?
This album is comprised of five tracks, and they were all selected from a wide array of songs. The tracklist is based around the title song “Howl,” and since it is the first album filled with my voice, I focused on arranging a tracklist that would make my voice stand out more than anything else. To all my dear listeners, I hope my voice can be your little hero, giving strength, hope, and courage.
If you could choose a color, a season, an emotion, or any descriptor you’d like to use to describe yourself and your music, what would you choose, and why?
The colors and seasons that would express me and my music are transparent colors and all four seasons. And for emotion or any descriptor, I would use “pleasant feeling” and “fluttering.” The reason why I chose transparent is because I believe that my voice has a very clear sound, which allows me to freely express various types of music. This is similar to the reason why I chose all the four seasons. I truly enjoy various styles of music, and I believe I can recreate all genres into my own style. And I chose “pleasant feeling” because I want to deliver messages of consolation and hope with my music. Every time I sing, I feel a nervous fluttering in my heart, as if I’m singing for the first time, which I believe to be a kind of happy excitement. Likewise, I would like to present a pleasant feeling of excitement, a nice flutter in the heart, to all those who listen to my music.
CHUU’s Howl in USA tour begins on December 3rd in Los Angeles, and will slowly move east to New York, and back west to finish up in Dallas.
