In Berlin, thousands of fans waited since early in the day under the scorching June sun, shielding themselves with umbrellas, and holding their spirits high for an amazing night to come. Some of them were already deadly exhausted from the weather, yet they still kept their place in the queues as to not miss the chance for a better spot in the audience.
The reason for their undying enthusiasm on this hot summer day day was because the one and only GOT7, whom took the fans bystorm when their European leg of ‘Eyes on you‘ was officially confirmed. No one wanted this opportunity to slip between their fingers which resulted in the tickets to be sold out within minutes upon release.
The Berlin concert took place in Velodrom, which can hold up up to twelve thousand fans. It was hardly surprising then that the fans had waited in front of the venue since morning to secure the best spots in the hall. MyMusicTaste, the promoter for this tour, has granted us access to this one-of-a-chance concert experience and we are now delighted to share it with you.
Prior the concert in Berlin, GOT7 teased fans twice on their SNS by uploading two videos. One of them was from the city of Berlin itself, the second one was shared via VLIVE application. We can imagine how excited the fans were upon watching the boys on the screen while knowing they will see them with their own eyes soon. The excitement of the fans was surely visible not only before the concert, but through the whole 3-hours long show GOT7 put up for the European fans in Berlin!
The concert started off with a flashy intro showing the members names and their eyes, together with a cool-looking image of them walking away from the fans with the concert tour’s name above their heads. Their shadows then transformed into a falcon that fiercely broke the screen to welcome the group on stage.
When the main on-stage screen opened, showing the seven members, fans could not believe their eyes. Their deep wish had come true in just a few seconds. Hitting the stage hard and awakening their fans from the short dream-daze, GOT7 kicked the show off by performing ‘Hard carry‘, one of the groups’ staple songs. To the fans’ surprise, the boys broke the song into two parts, connecting them with a passionate dance break.
All the members were wearing black pants with different suit jackets and black shirts underneath. They were totally rocking the business-classy look we so admire on k-idols, but cannot really pull-off at a real work-place.
After the song from their second studio album ‘Flight Log: Turbulence’ they continued with another song from the same album: ‘Skyway,’ and without any rest in between, they performed ‘Out.’
The first segment was a short one. The members thanked the fans for coming and joked how hot it is suddenly in the venue. JB promised the night will get even hotter with them performing more songs. And when the group asked the fans whether they are having fun and want more, the response was a massive collective of screams of excitement. To that, and before continuing with the concert, Jinyoung screamed in German: “Auf geht’s!” which can be translated as “Let´s go” or “Let´s do it!”. He caught the fans by surprise and received an enormous response.
For the following songs, the members got closer to the fans by moving to the catwalk stage where they performed ‘My home‘ and ‘Paradise‘. For the song ‘Paradise‘ the lyrics of the track were displayed on the screens while showing the group’s LIVE camera shots, all in a classic black-white scheme, which made the stage even more unique and memorable.
During the second segment of the evening the members finally properly introduced themselves to the fans as GOT7 individually. The members tried to incorporate some German phrases into their introduction, such as Jackson’s mixture of German and English when saying: “Ich bin Jackson from GOT7”, meaning “I am Jackson from GOT7″. He continued by saying “Wie geht es euch?” [“How are you (doing)?”] to which he replied himself “Gut, gut, gut!” [“Good, good, good!].
When one of the members asked Youngjae, “How are you feeling?” and his response was, “Sooo amaaaaaaaaazing,” which made everyone laugh and scream.
JB was in charge of explaining the stage concept for the show. And he very calmly explained that the stage is made to look like an eye with eyelashes since their tour name is “Eyes on you”.
After that BamBam proposed to play a little game with the fans. “Let’s play a game, okay? We have two teams. We have first floor and second floor team, okay? Let´s see who is louder.” It was very hard to decide which team won this game as all the fans screamed at the top of their lungs.
The song ‘Hey‘ followed after their engagements with the fans. The members took off their suit jackets and showed their playful side more. The stage screens included colorful splashes and the main words of the song echoed through out by the fans in the whole venue.
To continue in a more romantic way GOT7 performed ‘Firework‘ next. While the members stood still on the stage for the first time, the camera could clearly focus on the individual singing, his outfit, and hairstyle. What remained in our memory was for sure JB’s three-cuts in his hair and Yugyeom’s leopard shirt.
There was a part in a following fan engagement which was meant to trick the some of the fans. Fans were asked to raise their hands if it was their first time to see GOT7 performing LIVE. And being it a concert in Europe, almost everyone’s hand shot to the air. However, the next question was if there was someone who did not know who GOT7 are prior coming to the concert. No one’s hand remained in the air. Bambam praised the audience how smart they are for not raising a hand. “You do not know GOT7? We are GOT7, okay?… Are we handsome? Are we sexy?” The response from the fans could not be louder at that time.
‘Look‘, ‘Begging on my knees‘ and ‘Teenager‘ were the next songs performed after the short chat break. During this, Yugyeom was given the opportunity to show off his dance skills. He went on the catwalk stage to dance for a bit and received a great wave of support from the fans.
During a short VCR video, the group changed backstage and returned with even more energy for ‘Us,’ ‘Stop stop it,’ ‘Girls girls girls‘ and ‘Home run.’ They introduced a new remix of the song ‘Girls girls girls‘ during the show, further making the fans love the song even more. It was an intriguing performance with short dance breaks, overflowing charisma and by far the loudest fanchants of the night.
After such a huge dose of powerful stage performances, it was time to calm down a bit and so the group performed ‘If you do,’ ‘My whole body is reacting,’ ‘Face,’ ‘Dreamin,’ and ‘You are.’ The end of the song ‘Dreamin’ repeats the same phrase and the members were singing it for a long time, even when going backstage. “니꿈꿔오늘밤널, 매일밤난우리둘이… 우리둘이…우리둘이…우리둘이“ [“Tonight I am dreaming about the two of us… the two of us… the two of us.”]. This dose of songs reached its climax when long silver stripes were shot from stage cannons above the stage, ending up hanging from the construction of the venue as well as falling into the audience. Timing perfectly with the explosion, GOT7 continued on with ‘Never ever.’
When the group tried to trick the fans into thinking that was the end of the show, Jiyoung and Bambam returned to stage for their solo performance ‘King.’ It was one luring and sexy stage! They started the song while sitting on chairs, reminiscing thrones, taking everyone’s breaths away by the strong stage presence and charisma they showed.
After this strong track, it was JB, Mark and Youngjae to change the atmosphere with their ‘Think about it’ performance.
Yugyeom then switched the atmosphere once again when he performed ‘From now.’ He performed in simple white pants and a white shirt, while solo dancing in red lighting, making the fans’ hearts skip a beat.
As if to wake the fans up from this trance, Jackson appeared on stage to perform ‘Hunger.’ His powerful singing and rapping continued through to the song ‘Phoenix,’ a stage performance he shared with Yugyeom.
After another short VCR-break the whole group returned to the stage with a song the fans were waiting for as they prepared a surprise for GOT7. Early from the morning the fans were distributing banners in front of the venue and the goal was to hold them up during the song ‘Thank you.’ When the first tones of this song echoed in the venue everyone took out his or her banner and held it in the air during the entire song. Seeing the thousands of banners in the air as well as the bright green lightsticks was a very beautiful sight to remember.
GOT7 then took their time to give individual words of thanks to the fans who came to see them and spend the last three hours with them. Jackson was the one who summed up the whole atmosphere pretty nicely: “What is up, Berlin?… It is our first time in Berlin, first time in Germany with GOT7… You guys are so passionate (to which the fans reacted with such aloud cheer that Jackson had to pause for a long time to be heard over the screams). To be honest… it is craaaaazyyyyy! It is no joke. Look at this noise. It is crazy.” He then shared his wish to give more performances in Europe and asked the fans whether they would like them to do an outdoor concert.
“Thank you guys for coming today and also… All these years… GOT7 we have been thru highs and lows, bad times and good times, but you guys are always there, having our backs. Thank you so much! And hopefully we will come back to entertain you guys. Thank you so much, Berlin!” said Jackson.
Mark was next to express his thankfulness towards the fans: “It has been about four and a half years since we debuted… and we are finally here in Europe, guys. It feels like a dream just being on this stage performing for you, guys. (…) You guys will be part of our memories for the rest of our lives. Wir kommen wieder! [We will come back!]”
When everyone had a little speech to thank the fans the group bowed together with their back-up dancers and returned backstage. The fans, however, wanted to see them one more time and so the group returned for the last three songs of the evening: remix version of ‘Look,’ Go higher,’ and ‘Fly‘.
Everyone was having the best time ever. Fans were fanchanting, jumping and overall enjoying the last moments with GOT7. Youngjae, Mark, Jackson and Bambam were trying to jump and get one of the silver stripes hanging from the ceiling, but failed since it was simply that high. The rest of the group did their best to get closer to the fans by stopping by the edges of the stage, waving at the fans with smiles on their faces. After the last, the very last, song ended and the group went backstage for good, everyone in the venue shivered with adrenaline and some fans started crying in thanks and disbelief that the concert was over. It was one of the best shows Europe has seen this year and it will remain in everyone’s memory for a very long time.
We would like to thank the group for coming all the way to Europe and giving a spectacular show to the fans in Germany. We truly wish the members the best and hope to see them in Europe again! Our thanks also goes to MyMusicTaste, for allowing us access to the show, and our incredible photographer for taking amazing photos. You can see the full photo gallery in our official Facebook album.
