On January 11th 2014, Leessang held their 1st Asia Showcase in Malaysia at Star stage, Kenanga Wholesales City Kuala Lumpur.
Before the showcase, the audience began to hype up as the MC choose 6 fans from a lucky draw for the game sessions later on with Leessang.
Leessang then started the show with the song “Modesty is Difficult”. As Gary and Gil appeared on stage, the crowd immediately got on their feet cheering and welcoming the Korean duo. “Turn off the TV” was the next song they performed.
A very familiar tune came up next and fans cheered wildly, especially Running Man fans, as
“You’re the Answer to the Guy Like Me” was performed. “Woman Who Can’t Break Up, Man Who Can’t Leave The Woman” followed after.
After preforming their four songs, Leessang took a quick break while a short compilation video of their variety shows (Infinite Challenge and Running Man) was shown. They were back on stage right after the video ended for the Q&A and games sessions. Both Gary and Gill also mentioned that they are very thankful for the big turnout of the audience. A board full questions that was prepared by the fans with sticky posts got pulled up on stage, the MC took the questions off one by one to ask to Leessang.
As the MC read the first question, which stated: “Compared with Korean fans, do you think Malaysia fans are also great?” Gary thoughtfully answered the question with a very popular saying in Korea namely “Malaysian fans are jjang!” (The best). The crowd sure loved that and waited patiently for the MC to ask the next question. After the MC mentioned food both men responded very enthusiastically. The question “What do you think about Malaysian food? What is your favourite dish?” Gary responded with repeating his thoughts on Malaysia “Malaysia and their food is deabak! While Gil brightened up thinking about his favourite dish, which is the famous Malaysian chili crab. Of course the MC couldn’t leave out the most favourite question from all fans “What is your ideal type?” This question really got the crowd going! Gil spoke up first and poked some fun at Gary with answering that is ideal type was Song Jihyo! After the crowd went wild, Gil seemed a little flustered and smiled brightly at Gary. When it was the latter’s time to answer the question he smiled widely when he repeated Gary and chose Song as his ideal type too. The crowd erupted in cheers and it took some time to quiet them down again. The next question asked was “In the year 2014, what is your new year’s resolution? Gary started with firstly thinking of his fans “Wishing all of you happiness first of all” following up with “Personally, I want to be a successful musician and I would like to invite Running Man to come to Malaysia!” Gil also spoke of coming back to Malaysia soon, he wanted to preform there again very soon!
After the Q&A session six lucky fans that were chosen earlier to be on stage and to participate in the games session. The game sessions was divided into two sessions. The first game was the “Couple Game” where each Gary and Gil will have one partner and they had to stand on a piece of newspaper sheet and during the game they had to hold the chosen fan “bridal style” and try to keep their balance. The team who will hold their balance the longest wins.
As their partners for this game came on stage, the duo and fans they were all curious to see which lucky fan girl will be chosen to come on stage, the crowd cheered loudly though as it turned out that both of the lucky fans were male! After the game was explain to Leessang, Gil asked ‘ Does it have to be this boy?’ causing the audience to erupt in laughter and cheering. Gary told the audience that he misses Song Jihyo a lot just as he was about to carry the male fan for the game. In the end, Due to Gill’s team unable to find their balance, Gary’s Team won.
The second game session was named “Survival Chair” a.k.a musical chair. The rest of the four lucky fans participated in the game. Ironically, Gary and Gil were the first ones who got eliminated. The participated fans get to take a picture together with Leessang after the game ends.
Leessang continued the showcase with more of their hit songs, like“I’m Not Laughing”, “Ballerino”, “Simple Life” and “Clown”.
Leessang rocked the encore stage with “Let’s Meet Right Now “and “Rush”. The duo took turns to go down the stage for the crowd during the encore. They also threw their signature Leessang’s caps and towel to the crowd and even splashed the fans with water from their water bottles at the very end, leaving the audience with in awe with their performance. Although the showcase was around an just about an hour long, Leessang still held up to their expectations and held a very successful showcase that left the audience a mind-blowing memory.
