No stranger to Singapore, LUNAFLY tagged the sunny island as their second home during their latest trip in town for 2014 LUNAFLY‘From Us To You’ Fan Meeting on June 7th, 2014.
Prior meeting the fans, the talented trio held their press conference at the Singapore Conference Hall. True Lukies would know how approachable these boys are! Members Sam, Teo and Yun exhibited great chemistry, and coupled with the constant ‘bickering,’ LUNAFLY evoked non-stop laughter throughout the cozy and light-hearted session.
“A bra?” was the first response from the boys for the day when members were asked to share about the most interesting gift received on tour thus far. Elaborating on his peculiar gift, Teo shared his unique experience in Mexico, where a fan presented him with a large-sized bra. It does seem like Teo’s long haired concept left quite an impression!
So what about the most memorable messages from fans, on Twitter or other SNS? Yun shared how fans usually show their affection with the many “I love you” and “I miss you” messages, or warm their hearts by asking them how their day has been. At times, some fans will tell members what they did during the day, which the boys thought is really nice. Teo also pointed out that one too many times, fans will run away after seeing them in the streets and follow-up with a message telling him that he was spotted at here and there. Sam was quick to probe further – “What kind of place?!” with a snigger that met with Teo’s innocent look, “Apgujeong?”
Talking about Singaporean fans, Sam said “This marks our third time being here, we are very comfortable and we see so many familiar faces. It is like seeing extended family! So it’s very good!” The smiley leader was also very thoughtful – on one hand, he kept checking with members if they understood the questions, and on the other, the fluent English speaker and Briton Sam was also very encouraging towards the translator.
Drawing the attention to their latest album, LUNAFLY said they had a lot fun recording it because “There are so many different genres. It’s very unique and also challenging for us to sing.” In fact, the producer of the title track ‘Special Guy’ was present at the press conference. Members were busy pointing their producer out and explaining how he always help other artists like them grow. Very appreciative boys!
On top of unique genres, LUNAFLY is known for their music covers and certainly not a typical Korean boy group born on a broadcast music show. With their debut and earlier activities centred online, the boys were asked if they would have presented themselves differently if they went the conventional way. Acknowledging it being a good question, Teo said, “We didn’t go the conventional way because we are not conventional. There is no similar boy group like ours in Korea,” and Sam added, “It would be challenging to go the conventional way because of the music we do, it is so different. I don’t think it is a case where one way is better than another. It is just that the way we went is a good way for us.”
LUNAFLY went on to share that it was awkward when they first went onto music shows since they are not used to performing on broadcast shows, and that they felt they had to work extra hard to bring the best to viewers. Nevertheless, it did seem like they had lots of fun when they started teasing each other of the different idol friends they made during the shows.
The squabbling between Teo and Sam never stops! Pointing to Teo, Sam went, “He said I have to make new friends because I am a loser,” before revealing his new friends, which include Infinite’s Woohyun and members of EXO! For Teo, there was really no surprise there when his new friends are mostly members from Girls’ Generation, A Pink, Hello Venus, as well as Juniel. What surprised us was when Teo went on, “I’m also friends with Pussycat Dolls, Beyoncé…” what caused quite the surprise with the fans before he cheekily added on “… though they are very busy, and never really take my calls!”
What about artists or songs that they wish to cover in the near future? “G-Dragon. That will be cool,” quipped Teo, while Yun chose John Legend and Sam named Snoop Dogg and Jon Bon Jovi. And with Yun being casted for a number of dramas, members also chatted about the roles that they would like to play. Sam jokingly suggested that Teo “will be a good woman,” while Teo eagerly expressed that he wants to be in a relationship but “just holding hands, no kissing. Because I heard it’s hard to do kissing scenes in front of the cameras and with all the people watching!” Kissing or no kissing, fans are definitely looking forward to seeing the members’ acting debut when opportunities arise.
Closing the session, LUNAFLY did the mandatory media shots with an added angle – bringing the sexy back! Before long, Sam and Yun also began to ‘strip’ Teo in an attempt to show his collarbone. There was indeed, never a dull moment with these boys!
Following a short break, LUNAFLY returned and greeted fans with amazing vocals for ‘YeoWooYa.’ LUNAFLY’s live performances are always an ear orgasm! With Teo on the Cajun, Sam and Yun on guitars, the fan meeting was filled with astounding acoustics and a galore of interactive elements for the thrilled fans.
Because singing N Sync’s ‘This I Promise You’ on their own is too lonesome, the boys started ringing the mobiles of lucky fans in the audience. Members randomly picked one number each. Sam dialed first, while teasing fans – “If I called you and you don’t like me. That’s too bad, I am sorry!” When it came to Teo, the organizer pranked the poor boy and got him into believing that out of so many female Lukies, he picked a male fan. The jaw-dropping moment for Teo was hilarious! Laughter aside, it was no doubt an intimate session for the fortunate fans whom were serenaded by members onstage. We saw Teo taking a selfie with the fan’s phone, and Yun had his arm around the lucky fan whilst hitting all the right notes!
One can be sure that music is LUNAFLY’s niche. But for the fan meet, the boys were thrown out their comfort zone to show their artistic ability and presentation skills. Members were challenged to a three-minute drawing session to portray whatever that was on their mind at the moment.
Playful Sam immediately went “Ohh that’s a dangerous thought!” Dangerous it might be, Sam definitely took the longest to finish his masterpiece, which happens to be a portrait of a subjective ‘beauty’. Maknae Yun drew exactly what was happening there and then – a LUNAFLY concert. Teo finished his under a minute, and got the crowd rolling in laughter as he went on to explain how his ‘colours of the world’ drawing is one-of-a-kind – though it essentially is a rainbow in orange (sun), red (fire), green (grass), blue (water), black (life)!
After the drawing session, LUNAFLY settled down to answer some of the questions that fans wrote on post-it notes prior the fan meet. Like a sequel to his drawing, Sam was asked where he would kiss a girl first – “There are a lot of places that I can go for. Cheeks for the first date, lips after five dates, and after 100 days, I will probably ask for hand in marriage.” Well, it does seem like Sam already got it all planned!
The night went on and packed with a fans’ video tribute to the boys – a performance on the Cajun to LUNAFLY’s ‘How Nice It Would Be,’ ‘Superhero’ and ‘One More Step,’ as well as a selfie competition where members chose the winners on the spot as photos flashed across the big screen.
Coming down to the last song ‘Shake it Off,’ members expressed their gratitude to fans for their relentless support. An emotional Sam went, “Thank you all for coming down! We may behave silly and goof around, but we really appreciate your presence!”
Everyone really thought the session will end at that since the boys had to rush off for an autograph session and another schedule. To fans’ pleasant surprise, LUNAFLY re-emerged on stage after several minutes and gifted everyone not one, but two more songs – melting the crowds’ hearts with ‘Seeing You or Missing You’ and Justin Bieber’s ‘As Long as You Love Me,’ while explaining that they really felt bad and cannot bear to leave fans hanging with just three songs for the night!
LUNAFLY is an undeniably talented band; and with their approachable persona and sweet nature, we wish the boys every success and look forward to their next performance in Singapore!
Officially KMusic would like to thank Aurora Borealis for the great invitation.
