Famous Korean guitar prodigy Sungha Jung was back in Singapore again over the weekend for his sold-out concert! Held at the renowned Kallang Theatre, fans from all over the world came to watch the 20 year-old show off his remarkable guitar skills!
Lucky for us, Officially KMusic managed to speak with Sungha Jung again after his first interview with us in Melbourne, Australia back in 2015. He shared with us a little bit about his new album, “L’Atelier”, which means ‘The Studio’ in French. He also gave us an exclusive short performance of ‘Seventh #9’, an original piece from his new album. You can watch it down below!
The opening act of the show that night was Lee Guo Liang, the winner of the Sungha Jung Guitar Competition, who performed ‘Isn’t She Lovely‘ by Stevie Wonder. The fans were mesmerized by his guitar performance and some even sang along with his arrangement.
Sungha Jung then greeted the audience with the first song on his new album ‘On Cloud Nine’. He then shared with his audience that last year’s show in Singapore was the best he ever had so he hoped that it would be the same for that night. The talented young man subsequently charmed the audience with his title song from his latest album, ‘L’Atelier’.
He said, “It’s my first time writing a jazzy kind of song like ‘In The Midnight!’” before playing the lovely song followed by the upbeat song ‘Seventh #9′. Shifting moods, he then performed a soft, peaceful, mellow ballad song, ‘Nocturne’ from his latest album.
Before ending his first set for the concert, he played an original tune from his first solo album ‘The Milky Way’ and a special arrangement of Singaporean JJ Lin’s ‘Remember’.
A much awaited guest performer for the night was Singaporean guitar virtuoso, Neil Chan, who opened for the second set with his original piece titled ‘Merci’. Sungha Jung then joined him for a duet composed by Sungha Jung himself entitled ‘Stars’, a dedication to the Sewol ferry accident.
Sungha Jung then continued to swoon the audience with a cover of Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ and BTS’ ‘Butterfly’. Fans couldn’t contain their excitement the moment he started playing the strings on his guitar and some even sang along together with his arrangement!
He ended his second set for the night after playing his original composition ‘Catching the Beat’, his own rendition of JJ Lin’s ‘江南 (River South)’ and ‘Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence.’
For his encore, he came back singing a song from one of his favourite singers, John Mayer. And with that, a night with Sungha Jung and beautiful melodies ended.
We would like to thank Sungha Jung for letting us covering this event! Stay tuned to Officially KMusic for all your exclusive KPOP news!
