T O Double P! D O Double G! Topp Dogg, came to Houston on February 5th for their first ever US showcase. To show their support, the Houstonian TOPPKLASS had several events to welcome them, Texas Style. Many fan projects were created, such as making homemade banners, clothes and also buttons.
They also held many TOPPKLASS meet ups before the concert at the Korean Store Hmart, so all of the TOPPKLASS could hangout, eat Korean food, and talk about who they loved most, which was of course Topp Dogg! Texas held a fundraiser to provide Topp Dogg with some homemade Texas styled food as well.
On the day of the concert, though it was cold and chilly outside, the energy of Houstonian TOPPKLASS never seized to fade away. A group of Texan TOPPKLASS danced to a mix of Topp Dogg’s biggest singles, which include, “Follow Me“, “TOPDOG“, and “Annie.” It was the place to be to create new kpop friendships.
Right at 6:30 PM, it was time to go in. The venue was jam packed with TOPPKLASS from everywhere, traveling down to Houston from states like California or Ohio to come and see their favorite idol group performing.
At 7:30 was when it all began, the stage lights flashed and we finally see Topp Dogg shining as 13 on stage, performing their recent single “Annie.” Throughout the night they performed all of their major hits, some which include “Cigarette“, “TOPDOG“, “Open The Door”, “Follow Me“, and “Arario“. The boys had a couple of individual or subgroup stages like Kidoh and Gohn’s stage of Taxi on the Phone and a Wizard performance which includes members, B-Joo, Hansol, Xero, and Hoojoon, not to mention Jenissi’s stage for “Star.” They even did a cover of Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty To Me“, which I personally have to say was a very very enjoyable performance. Since it was close to Xero’s birthday, there was a mini celebration for him, the TOPPKLASS providing him with a cake and singing Happy Birthday while letting Topp Dogg’s balloons float in the air.
Topp Dogg then had an event where they played charades with a couple of lucky fans during the showcase, where B-Joo was doing the dance to SNSD’s “Gee“. They then took some fans’ phones and began taking selcas of themselves and fans together. A couple candid videos also were played which the boys had been pranked with a hidden camera, this really showed off their everyday personality.
Personally to me the whole night was an amazing experience. I got to meet other TOPPKLASS and befriend them. I also got to see Topp Dogg perform different amazing stages which showed their charismatic side and saw their goofy sides when they weren’t performing. This whole experience was surreal. I really hope that Topp Dogg enjoyed their stay in Houston.
Next up, the 12 made their way to Miami Beach for yet another amazing performance where I, Sarai, got to experience my first concert.
Topp Dogg performed in The Fillmore at Jackie Gleason Theater in beautiful Miami Beach to a nearly packed house of ecstatic fans. I unfortunately had a few hiccups in getting into the venue and missed part of their performance. However, when I finally did enter I was struck by their commanding presence as all eyes were directed to the stage soaking in every movement and listening to every word. A sea of light sticks being waved in the air to the beat of every song. Only 4 members at this point were on stage going through a series of precision dance steps, thoroughly exciting the crowd. A few songs later another member joined them to do their rendition of Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty to Me,” generating screams of delight from the crowd.
All of the members came out to the stage to do their song Topp Dogg and “Amadeus.” Let me just say how impressive it is to see all 13 of them on stage at once. The choreography the precision of their moves were spot on. This is definitely a group to watch. ToppDogg performed “Arario” and they showed the audience how flawlessly they can perform with props, in this case the large fans. I totally want one now.
In between sets the audience enjoyed taped candid camera moments of the individual members in two separate scenarios, one protecting a girl and the other involved a ghost in the studio. You’ll love their reactions, so cute!
Before the end ToppDogg lined up and with the help of an interpreter thanked the fans for attending and individually gave their wishes for 2015. They promised to comeback and meet their fans again on stage in 2015.
For my first KPOP concert it was a wonderful experience. The fans were wonderful, engaged in the performance chanting T.O. double P! D.O. double G! and dressed to impress. Topp Dogg is quickly running up my bias list. How about you?
If you missed these shows, be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for their next visit! They truly are a group worth seeing!
