[HIGHLIGHT BELOW FOR THE EPISODE RECAP/SPOILERS]
Right off the bat you are shown the bride and groom running from what looks to be angered groomsmen. Why were they angry? Well, it turns out the family wasn’t too fond of the couple’s sudden choice to marry.
The two burst through the doors of a church and walk directly to the altar, where a priest (who happens to be Chang Min’s former teacher) awaits quite angered. Chang Min smiles as his star-stuck bride, Jin Hee stares blankly ahead. Chang Min gets the priest to read a paper he had wrote which basically has the priest saying things like, “You were the best student” and “You’re so handsome” etc… The priest stops reading the absurd paper to which he then gives the blessings to Chang Min and Jin Hee, then Chang Min places a ring on Jin Hee’s finger, afterwards planting a big smooch on her!
Suddenly, it flashes forward to Chang Min talking to his doctor. He is stressed, ranting about a cup being half full or half empty. He views it as empty, while Jin Hee says it is half full. Obviously it is known that Chang Min is the pessimist and Jin Hee is the optimist.
The story then turns to Jin Hee talking to the same doctor. (Let me make it clear that they are not together, but rather just speaking to the same doctor at different times.) Jin Hee is there because the stress of their relationship is taking a tole on her health, causing her to have shortness of breath, heart problems and even a bald spot the size of a quarter on her head! She stresses about the pressure of their family, the way Chang Min treats her and the fact that Chang Min forced her to give away “Miki,” a dog she had owned. This relationship surly isn’t healthy.
Chang min, being a pharmaceutical salesman, tries to sell his drugs to his friend at the hospital. The friend gets a “call to go to surgery” and causes Chang Min to get flustered. The friend responds, “I can’t make these types of decisions” and invites Chang Min to go to a staff party where his female boss in charge was having drinks with the guys.
While Chang Min was out drinking, Jin Hee was at home, preparing a meal. Her mother-in-law suddenly called, causing her shortness of breath and chest pain. She reached for the pharmaceuticals given to her by Chang Min, to which she came to believe were poison intended to kill her.
The scene changes back to Chang Min getting excessively drunk with the doctors. (This became extremely funny as they all got drunk and were dancing on tables) He then sends the boss off and begins walking home as if feeling ashamed. As most drunk people do, he found himself an alley-way to puke his liquor out. (gross) To add to the bad luck of this day, it begins to rain, causing his box of pharmaceuticals to burst and scatter all over the ground. Angry, drunk Chang Min stomps them to the ground.
He arrives home to Jin Hee lying on the couch. “Jin Hee, get me a towel”, he shouts. Jin Hee doesn’t respond, angering him a bit. Chang Min then finds his fish to be dead, bringing him to a yell. They argue about the fish when he suddenly runs into the room and grabs her precious dogs old clothing. He decided to take scissors to it as pay back. Well, this whole “revenge” thing spins out of control to the point that there are remotes flying, pictures breaking, CD’s crashing and dishes shattering all over the ground. It was at this point that they realized their relationship was through…
Six years later, a beautiful wedding is to be had. Chang Min prepares a tuxedo explaining, “I don’t know why I feel so nervous.” This makes the audience think that maybe he is remarrying. Come to find out that he is to sing for his friends wedding.
Jin Hee and her friends are scrambling to get to an event as well. They wore fancy dresses and Jin Hee happened to be wearing her wedding dress that we saw at the beginning of the show. She quickly scurries into the hall and makes her way directly for the piano.
Uh oh, what just happened? Chang Min and Jin Hee are in the same room… The bride and groom had wanted both of their friends to perform at their wedding. Little did they know, it was ex-husband Chang Min and ex-wife Jin Hee. Ah, but of course they just about ruined the ceremony.
Oh, that’s not all! Poor Jin Hee didn’t realize that she blocked in Chang Min’s car. She then got an angry phone call from him and with food in her mouth, still surprised, she stood up and shouted, “YAH!!”, disrupting the people enjoying the after party. When she went out to move the car, he criticized and ranted about her cheap car (which I thought was rather cute). She got mad, throwing off her over coat which then brought laugher to Chang Min. “Oh! You’re wearing that dress?” he says, laughing as he takes a phone call of a mystery girl from America named, “Kristal.” (He literally answers the phone so funny. “OH! HI Kristal! What’s up?!“)
Off to the next scene and who’s favorite “evil” actress is there? Of course it’s Park Joon Geum, the evil mother from Secret Garden, wicked step mother of Heirs and as auntie Wang in Rooftop Prince. Once again, she is playing the role of a rich mother, Yoon Sung Sook.
She is gathered at a table of relatives awaiting her son, Chang Min. The relatives look down on her as her son isn’t a doctor as they had planned. He finally arrives to which she offers him her seat and the family begins bickering. When the family get together ends, Sung Sook suddenly brings up how HORRIBLE she thought Jin Hee was. Chang Min agrees, showing the mother-son bonding moment. Though, he then tells her to forget about it.
What is Jin Hee doing through all of this? Sulking with her friends at a bar of course. She slurs her speech and yaps on and on about how she ran into her ex. Her friends urge her to go home for the night but stubborn, drunk Jin Hee wants just one more drink. As she is about to tip that shot back, she see’s Chang Min’s face in it, talking down to her as he did in the parking garage. She angrily tips the drink back and suddenly falls to the ground in a seizure.
Panicked, the friends are screaming and crying in the ambulance and all the way into the hospital.
Enter Mr. Doctor! Gook Chun Soo, played by Lee Pil Mo, is the head doctor in the ER. Right off the bat you notice how efficient he is. Jin Hee is rushed in and the other doctors hook her up to all of the necessary machines. Chun Soo enters, checking everything when he suddenly see’s something in her throat. He reaches in with his tweezers and pulls out a mussel shell that was lodged in her throat! “She must have been too drunk to feel it” he says.
Through the night, they check on her to see if she is conscious. After confirming she was, they try to remove her oxygen tube, causing Jin Hee to curse and slap Chun Soo across the face. At this point, I was rolling on the ground.
That morning, we see Chang Min again. He and his friend are walking through the halls of what looks to be a hospital. It’s confirmed that it is the same hospital Jin Hee is in as we see Chun Soo getting his morning coffee.
Chang Min and his friend, Yong Gyu played by Yoon Jong Hoon, wait for the elevator. The two boys spot a sexy girl walking their way. Chun Soo over hears them gawking over the lady so he continues to watch from a far. Chang Min says to Yong Gyu, “Want me to get you her number?” to which Yong Gyu was skeptical.
In probably the slyest way I’ve seen yet, Chang Min makes his way to Han Ah Reum, played by Clara, and asks, ” Can I borrow your cell phone, I left mine at home.” He then proceeds to call his friend, Yong Gyu, who is standing right next to him. How sly is that? Too sly!
After making up some lie on the phone about him being a doctor and his friend being a doctor as well, he gives the phone back to Ah Reum, hoping to have captured her attention.
It isn’t until a short moment later that we find out Ah Reum is in the same group as Yong Gyu and Chang Min as INTERNS at the hospital. How funny! Immediately, Chang Min throws his friend under the bus by saying, “I lied because my friend thinks your cute“, and points at Yong Gyu. Soon after, they split up into groups, draw from a bin of schedules, all hoping they don’t pick ER.
All of them panic as Chang Min slowly pulled the tab back, revealing “ER, ER & ER”. “OH MY GOD!” shouts Ah Reum. That’s three months of ER training! The rest keel over in dread! No one wants the ER. As they make their way to the ER, a nurse urges them to run quickly, making us think it is an emergency.
When they arrive, everyone looks in fear at the crazy atmosphere of the ER. Enter the strict (yet sexy) Chun Soo again. Previous students nicknamed him the “Devil.” In the ER, he is the head-honcho and is quick to lay down the rules. The most shocking being that if ONE intern fails, then ALL of them will fail. While Chun Soo shouts out each rule, Jin Hee wakes up realizing that she is late for her job (which we don’t know anything about at this point). She panics as she see’s the time and starts ripping out her IV’s. As she is listening to Chun Soo’s speech, she over hears him calling role in which he says, “Oh Jin Hee“, causing her to panic even more and look at the label of her bed sheets…
OH CRAP she is at the hospital that she was supposed to intern at! As Chun Soo continues, noticing she isn’t present, he then crosses her name out, causing even more of a ruckus from Jin Hee. As quickly as she can, she rolls out of the bed, knocking things down in the process, and shuffles for her shoes. She then barrels out of the curtain. “Oh Jin Hee is here“, she says fumbling with her things.
As she looks around, the stunned face of Chang Min looks back at her. Oh snap! Looks like there’s going to be tension at this internship!
