On April 13th, former WANNA ONE member turned soloist KANG DANIEL dropped the music video to his brand new title track, ‘ANTIDOTE’. The song comes along with the simultaneously released 4th mini album, ‘Yellow’ which continues on his colour naming theme of his EPs with ‘Cyan’ and ‘Magenta’ preceding this album. Check out the MV down below!
Dealing with heavy subject matter, the artist himself describes the track as one written drawing the feelings when he felt like he emotionally hit rock bottom. With the pressure from fans and the public, the alternative R&B / Rock track describes being stuck in darkness, wanting to escape and wanting to be let go, begging to receive the antidote to live on. His emotional plea rings out with its otherwise minimal instrumental, leading his breathy shaking timbre to run its bottomless impact.
Watching the MV, there is a huge emphasis on the choreography. Combined with his own company’s dancers, they perform a free-flowing energy filled routine. The movements are sharp, precise, yet smooth and artistic during the chorus, letting the song do its course, draining their souls. The male vocalist always in the centre of attention finds himself on a stage, faced with silhouettes of a crowd pointing their phones and devices towards him, recording every moment. Running away, he hopelessly tries to reach the light, however is sucked into a sinking hole, with his hands showing his last apparent moments. Deep down, a black box with yellow stripes confines the artist. Bravely deciding to break free, a curtain reveals him on a sunny rooftop. Now freed, an expressive dance solo brings to the provoking MV.
This track comes after his pre-release single, ‘PARANOIA’ which arrived in February. Additionally included in the album are three other tracks which feature Korean rapper Omega Sapien and artist Wonstein. With the star founding his own label, his creative freedom sees him co-writing all five tunes in this release.
