KARA has been enjoying some much deserved success with their most recent release, “Mamamia.” Now they’ve given fans a look at their hard-work in the dance studio with the publication of their dance rehearsal video. The ladies of KARA and their back-up dancers look talented and well-practiced, though sadly it doesn’t look like all of them are relaxed.
In case you had forgotten, KARA has had a hard year this year. Between the loss of two veteran members and the controversial casting of a new member via the television program “The KARA Project,” it seemed that the odds were insurmountable for the group and there was even talk among fans that it might be kinder in the long run to just end the group and let the members go their own ways. However, after the release of “Mamamia” it became clear why DSP Media persisted in keeping the group together, they are just as talented as they ever were and the new addition seemed to be blending in smoothly at least in terms of vocal and dance performance. The editing of the video did make it difficult to see the entire choreography so this release is a welcome one.
I really enjoyed watching the ladies dance and as a relative newcomer to KARA, I also appreciated their rookie name tags. I had heard that the new girl wasn’t as visible as the other members in the full video, this really made it easy to see how she is blending in skill-wise with the established girls. As I was watching, I noticed someone wasn’t singing (or mouthing along) to her part and I wasn’t 100% sure who at first. Then I realized it is was Goo Hara. I thought originally it was the newest member Heo Youngji and that would have been understandable. I, like many fans, would have given Youngji a bit more slack since she’s new and maybe nervous or concentrating. However, the discovery that was in fact Hara was a little disturbing. I seem to remember reading over the last year or so that Hara has a natural BRF (bitchy resting face), though I really do not like commenting on that sort of thing. If the group hadn’t been under so much stress for so long, I wouldn’t have even mentioned it. There is always a fear when a new member joins that there will be the kind of friction between them and the existing members that fractures the group (like what happened to T-ara). With that in mind, I hope her unhappy and slightly angry looking expression is just that, the resting look of her face, and not a sign of some deeper issue. KARA would have a hard time withstanding another storm of controversy.
What did you think of their dancing? I feel like their choreography was good and probably quite deceptively difficult. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
