Two massive K-pop groups were told to alter promotional songs before performing on KBS. EXO and BLACKPINK have been asked by the station to change specific things regarding both performances so they are appropriate to air on television.
EXO will be using the title ‘LOUDER‘ to promote ‘LOTTO‘. The original title of the track correlates too closely with gambling and a specific market product, so the station cannot allow it to be promoted on air.
BLACKPINK‘s ‘BOOMBAYAH‘ caused concerns regarding the lyric “Middle finger up F…” which was changed to “Racks on rack-I’m flexin’ crazy” for SBS‘s ‘Inkigayo‘.
The song also includes the word ‘Henny’ which is short for the alcohol brand, Hennessey. Since South Korea censorship laws prohibit the promotion of brands that can affect consumers directly and indirectly, KBS has to abide by their censorship.
YG Entertainment has agreed to alter BLACKPINK‘s songs and a revised copy has been sent to the station for approval. As of now, both groups are still rumored to perform. The story is still developing.
