After suspicion of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Kim Hyun Joong has been indicted.
On January 19th, the Seoul District Public Prosecutors’ Office revealed that it summarily indicted the actor for physically harming his ex and is now seeking 5 million won (KRW) or $5,000 USD in fines.
An affiliate for the Prosecutors’ Office told Newsen, ” Kim Hyun Joong has been summarily indicted after he hit his girlfriend, A, in May of 2014, requiring two weeks to recover, and again, in July during a verbal dispute, leaving her with an injury requiring six weeks to recover. In July, he was charged for these two accounts of assault, but the lawsuit was dropped. While the overall assault case was settled, the two accounts of assault that can′t be prosecuted by law were not indicted, and regarding the injuries and harm caused by the attacks, they were summarily indicted.”
In August of last year, Kim Hyun Joong’s former girlfriend filed a lawsuit against him claiming she was repeatedly assaulted by him. The claims eventually led to Hyun Joong apologizing both publicly and privately, leading the ex to drop the lawsuit.
Kim Hyun Joong admitted that one of their (he and his ex’s) fights became physical. Even though the charges were dropped, the prosecution was able to pursue the case without the girlfriend’s charges and although the actor said that he didn’t mean to hurt her, the prosecutor’s office explained, “While Kim claimed that he had no intention of hurting her, the damage from the attack was clear.”
If Hyun Joong pays the $5,000 fine, then the case against him will be closed.
