As we have previously mentioned, SHINee’s leader, Onew, had undergone surgery on his vocal chords back in June, and he was out of commission completely for over three months. Since his return, he’s still been extremely cautious, especially while SHINee was on their Japanese tour, which just ended last week. Naturally, many fans have been wondering, just what kind of shape is Onew’s voice really in, anyway? Well, according to fellow singer and friend Kim Yeon Woo, we can put all our worries to rest.
On December 17th, the well-known singer and vocal coach appeared on KBS Cool FM’s “Jo Jung Chi and Jang Dong Min’s 2 o’clock,” and graciously shared his thoughts on Onew’s current situation. Yeon Woo revealed that he and Onew are great friends, often meeting up over drinks. The hosts asked him about Onew’s present condition, to which he responded: “He recovered a lot. Compared to before, his voice comes out even better. I watch over him when he sings and he′s definitely gotten better.” To Shawols far and wide, this is most definitely some long-awaited good news.
Onew suffered from something that many professional singers experience at least at one point in their careers, polyps on their vocal cords. This generally occurs after a few instances of vocal abuse, and are usually pretty easy to remove, with a fairly short recovery time. However, in Onew’s case, they also had to do a bit of reconstruction, as well as removing a small portion of the cords. Thus, his more extensive recovery. For those that may not be aware, the vocal cords are extremely delicate, and any kind of procedure done to them must be exact in order to not do permanent damage. In other words, the fact that Onew’s voice is stronger than ever, is a huge blessing that should not be taken lightly.
What do you think of Kim Yeon Woo’s statements? Are you glad to hear of Onew’s vastly improved condition? Are you grateful to Yeon Woo for sharing this wonderful news with us? Stay tuned here at Officially KMusic for more updates on all your favorite Korean artists!
