The K-Pop Summit is a cover dance event run by Crossover Dance Studios and is held every year in Sydney. It’s a concert run by fans for fans. This year the K-Pop Summit was held on the 17th of May and had so many entries that they had to move to a different venue and turn it into two shows: a night show and a day show.
The day show started at 3pm and was opened with “Everybody” by SHINee and Bangtan Boys’ SBS performance and featured different dancers from Crossover Dance Studios. The first few performances of Act One were by the brand new Sydney cover group S.H.ADOW who performed an excellent cover of B.A.P’s “Warrior” with blonde wigs and all. They were then followed by MRx2 who performed Girls’ Generation’s latest hit “Mr.Mr.” and H.A.L.O who performed a vocal cover of EXO‘s “Miracles in December.“
The next few dance performances were by KUTESY, You’re Welcome and Carmen Come Back Home. KUTESY performed a mix of “Sherlock” by SHINee and “We Are A Bit Different” by EvoL. You’re Welcome performed “Thank You Very Much” by BESTie and Carmen Come Back Home performed “Come Back Home” by 2NE1
Next up in the show was the Super Fun K-Pop Games Time which was sponsored by Media Asia. Contestants went up on stage and read lyrics translated into English and had to guess which song it was from and the winner was rewarded with a K-Pop CD.
After the game time was over, it was back to the K-Pop performances starting with Triple C followed by Mistar and Hollee. Triple C covered Wa$$up’s song “Nom Nom Nom” and Mistar performed “Hush” and “I Don’t Need a Man” by Miss A. Hollee performed an excellent singing solo of “No No No” by Apink and spoke about donations for the Sewol Ferry tragedy.
To slow it down a bit, Waegookins performed a singing cover of “Missing You” by 2NE1. Well known Sydney cover group 6IXX did a sexy cover of “Miniskirt” by AoA, JPink did an adorable cover of “Mr Chu” and “My My” by Apink and XoK performed the sexy “Flashback” by After School. This was then followed by a quick 10 minute intermission before going into Act Two of the show.
Act Two began with a variety of performances starting with EXOVERDOSE who performed a mix of the EXO dubstep performance, “Growl,” “MAMA” performance break and “Overdose” by EXO. Following that performance was XII Seconds who performed “Hip Song” by Rain and JSOCKS who performed an extremely hilarious cover of “Catallena” by Orange Caramel.
The extremely talented Erin then came on stage to sing a powerful cover of “Singing Got Better” by Ailee. RE% were next up on stage performing “MTBD” by CL which was choreographed by the talented May J. Give It To Me 24/7 were up next with the sexy mix of “Something” by Girl’s Day, “24 Hours” by Sunmi and “Give It To Me” by SISTAR. Up next was K-RUPTION who performed an excellent cover of “Be Mine” by INFINITE.
The second round of Super Fun K-Pop Games Time didn’t run due to time constraints so the performances continued. Triple C was back on stage again for a sexy performance of “One Way Love” by Hyorin. Tabletop Party were after and performed 4minute’s current hit “Whatcha Doin’ Today” and staying true to their name, they performed on tables. Aileean Doll House was the next performance and I consider it one of my favorite performances of the night. They performed a flawless cover of “U & I” by Ailee and had the crowd in awe over Sophia’s flawless voice.
Some of Sydney’s most well known cover dancers performed the last few songs before the finale starting with 6IXX who were back up on stage and changed it up from their last performance with the adorable song “Pretty Pretty” by Ladies’ Code. ZISSPOP then took over the stage next with “Neverland” by U-Kiss. The special guest of the summit and finale act was Darren TP who performed “Spellbound” by DBSK and “HuH” by 4minute with his lovely backup dancers. The summit then concluded with “Crash” by B.A.P which was performed by all the performers from the show and made for a fun ending to a fun show.
This year’s summit was the best summit hosted by Crossover to date; it featured a bigger line up and amazing organization and teamwork from the staff behind the scenes. It’ll be exciting to see how the next summit turns out and if it’ll be better than this one.
