Insooni, long considered to be Korea’s “R&B Diva,” has been charming fans everywhere for over 35 years with her soulful and beautiful voice.
Kim In-soon, better know by her stage name Insooni, was born in 1957 to an African-American father and South Korean mother. She made her debut with the group “Hee Sisters,” who released their first album in 1978. Since then, she has recorded a total of 19 albums and is considered to be one of the most famous female singers in South Korea.
Insooni made her solo debut in 1980 with the album, “A Relationship,” which did well on the charts and got her a KBS Musician Award. Her first big win was in 1994, when she won the KBS Artist of the Year award. She continued to release albums regularly through the 80’s and 90’s, such as “The Tears of a Letter” in 1985, “Special” in 1988, “Turning Point” in 1989, “The Queen of Soul,” in 1996, and so on.
Our diva had a bit of a second coming in the 2000’s, with the release of her anthology in 2001 and the successful “A to Z” album in 2004. She has had steady releases in this decade, continuing up until her most recent, “Umbrella,” which came out last year. Also during this time, Insooni presented a few gospel albums, as well as performed in musicals such as “Cats” and “Chicago.”
Insooni is a K-Pop legend, continuously winning awards and being presented with honors for her hard work and years of dedication.
