Dok2 (pronounced Dokki) is one of the most well-known rappers, lyricists, composers and producers in the Korean music industry. Even though it was only recently that he started to receive a lot of attention , he has been in the business since he was a child. If you are still not familiar with this incredibly talented artist, we here, at KMusic, would like to introduce him to you.
Dok2, or Lee Joon Kyung, was born on March 28th, 1990 in South Korea. He is half Korean, a quarter Spanish and a quarter Filipino. He started his career as Gonzo ‘the Notorious’ when he was only 12 years old. He sent his demo tape to Cho PD, and joined his agency, Future Flow Entertainment, when he was 13. He immediately started to produce songs for countless other Korean rappers, including such big names as Drunken Tiger, Dynamic Duo and Epik High.
A few years later, when he was 16, Dok2 and fellow child rapper, Microdot, created a duo called ALL BLACK and released their only single titled “Chapter1/MUSIC, 2006.” Dok2 started his solo career soon after and released “Thunderground Musik” and “Vol.1 Illstrumentalz.”
Dok2 continued to collaborate with and produce songs for many Korean hip-hop stars, joining “The Movement Crew,” he signed a contract with Epik High’s independent agency, Map The Soul Inc.
His debut mini-album, “Thunderground EP,” was released on November 25th, 2009, and in January 2011, he and rapper The Quiett, created an independent Korean hip-hop label Illionaire Records.
In 2012, Dok2 announced the release of his new album “Love & Life” that presided to catch the attention of hip-hop fans all over the world. The album consisted of 11 tracks, with 9 of them produced by the artist himself. “Love & Life” featured a softer style, than the “dirty south” rapping style that Dok2 had been previously famous for.
