Shinsadong Tiger, dubbed the “New Generation Producer” who has created many hits for various artists, released his project album, “Supermarket.” 4Minute participated in the album, providing vocals for the song, “Over and Over.” DJ R.Tee also remixed the song for a second version.
The song has a signature sound that definitely belongs to Shinsadong Tiger. It follows his style of incorporating trendy and frivolous beats that repeatedly absorbs listeners to the song.
“Over and Over” tells the never ending story of an unforgettable past love. The lyrics imply that no matter how hard one tries to escape the pain of separation and a love gone wrong, they can’t. The harder they try to force out those hurtful thoughts and memories, they come flooding back soon after.
A music video was also released for DJ R.Tee’s remixed version. The theme of the MV features a woman who we first see to be lying dead on the ground in this forest-like area; her shirt was stained red and bloody, as if to signify her body being heartless. She then gets up and from that point on, the scenes depict her actions backwards; rewinding to the time before she got her heart taken out from her by whom we can assume to be her lover. So visually, it coincides rather well with the lyrics. The playback in the MV represents the title “Over and Over,” meaning that the woman is literally reliving her ‘heartbreak.’ It was quite an interesting MV, although it could have been more extravagant to fit the upbeat and edgy sound of the song.
As for 4minute’s vocals, I do personally like their voices but this song did not suit them at all. The lyrics were sung in a way that made the song sound unappealing; their voices were too high, and sort of pitchy. Of course most fans disagree with this opinion and wrote comments like “They always sound so amazing!” and “Wow, Jiyoon’s voice is great!”
