B.A.P recently came back with the release of their first repackaged album. It contains a new title track, “Crash” and the remake of Bang Yong Guk’s “I Remember” in addition to the previous songs that were in the “No Mercy” mini album. “Crash” is a playful love song that was produced by Duble Sidekick. This time around, the title song sparks a different kind of charm from the tough image that B.A.P usually portray.
As opposed to their previous singles that spout forth individualism and the denouncement of societal constraint, this song is light hearted and talks of love and adoration. Daehyun and Youngjae sang much more softly; transforming their voices into a more delicate tone. Yong Guk and Zelo’s raps are more docile and even sweet. The music has a pop feel but it also incorporates a guitar base, making “Crash” a very happy, fun-loving song. Because it is different, it has caused many fans to have mix feelings about the song.
Many feel that the song is not something they would have expected from such a cool and masculine group. Some even say that the song is nothing special; in fact, it is too common within the industry. Aside from this, however, others seem to have taken “Crash” rather well. “After listening to the song, I feel so happy all of a sudden!” and “I love how they’re finally showing their cute side to us too!” are just some of the things many “BABYs” (B.A.P fan-club name) have been posting on their MV. Fans feel that it is good to see B.A.P in a different light and treasure this softer and cuter side of the boys.
Music groups evolve and change their musical styles all the time. As they gain experience from their life and work, or just simply feel that they want put out a new image, music groups are bound to transform, B.A.P’s music is no exception. Besides, if they were to stay static throughout their music career, always just sticking to that warrior state of mind, and never developing into something better, isn’t that a far worse condition to be in then releasing a song that happens to be general in the trade?
So long as they are still true to their own musical style and image, then it’s fine and that’s what they’re doing. I actually like this song a lot and agree with most Babys; “Crash” is refreshing and effortlessly puts a smile on my face.
Check out the song below and tell us if it makes you smile too.
