B.A.P has made their way to the top as one of the best rookie groups of 2012 and once again, these fabulous boys are back with a new track called “Rain Sound”! It’s said that this song is a pre-released track off of their upcoming mini album, which will be produced by Kang Ji Won who has previously worked on their debut song “Warrior”. With so many hits already under their belt, it’s so obvious that this song will be an all-kill!
The first four seconds of this song already got me screaming! The vocalizations from lead singer Youngjae kicks off the song in a way that instantly pulls in listeners, and the acoustic guitar in the background adds such a nice touch to the arrangement of the song. “Rain Sound” is no doubt based within Hip Hop but the softness of the guitar, which is present throughout the song, is able to bring out a deeper emotional appeal to the track. I also like how the drum set smoothly accompanies the melody that is discreetly implemented by a keyboard of some sort.
The way the verses are placed within the song is also just perfect. I love how the guitar strums slowly pick up into more complex combinations as Yongguk raps to the intro verse, carrying it out into the chorus. Jongup and Himchan also picked up quite a few more lines than usual which I love! It’s great to be able to hear them sing instead of the usual husky narrations, although Himchan sexily does that in here as well. Of course Youngjae and Daehyun’s vocals also always does the trick perfectly, singing ever so sweetly but filled with intense emotion. Zelo’s rapping also improved; I have always found his style of rapping slighty annoying because of the tone of his voice, but it worked pretty well in this track.
Lyrically, the song depicts the deep sorrow that fills a man’s heart as he spends his winter alone listening to the sound of rain, wishing it was instead the voice of his past love.
The music video is pretty damn awesome. It was said that TS Ent spent quite a lot to film this particular music video, hiring a tech crew to handle high speed cameras as well as even bringing in ambulance trucks and emergency equipment. It was very well filmed from beginning to end, with each scene reeling in audience members by the hundreds. I’m sure one of the main reasons for this attraction, aside from the great directing and editing, is the fact that the boys looked so good! Babys everywhere were definitely drooling and squealing their heads off at the site of the members. Some of the most interesting and memorable scenes were the ones where each member is filmed being shot. The “bullets” that hit them were obviously just red paint but it sure was painful and heart wrenching to watch. Especially when the lyrics during those moments was the refrain, asking whether or not the sound of rain was in fact “her” voice and begged for the heavens to stop the downpour so that “his” heart may cease to ache with pain. It was like each drop of rain was a bullet to the head in the mind of this lonely and forsaken man. Quite a sad and yet intriguing music video.
It’s so intriguing in fact that fans flood the comments with “I can’t stop watching this music video!” and “Omg, someone help me! I am addicted to this song and mv!”
As you can tell, I am absolutely a fan, a Baby! So yes, I enjoyed and like this song very much. Many may argue that “Rain Sound” is too soft and that B.A.P lost their image but I’d like to think otherwise. I mean come on, it has not even been a year since they’ve debuted (there’s still one week until that point). How is it possible that B.A.P already has a specific image and style that they HAVE to abide by when music itself is about experimenting and self expression? Big Bang started out as a group that was heavily immersed within Hip Hop, from tracks to clothing and style, but look at them now! They wear pretty tight skinny jeans and have awfully bright colored hair, yet the image they have and the music they make is still strictly Big Bang. I think “Rain Sound” has B.A.P written all over it and fits them as well as any other hard and built up track. Have a listen and take a look! If you don’t love it, you’ll at least like it.
