The long awaited debut of 2NE1‘s leader, CL has finally arrived with “나쁜 기집애 (The Baddest Female).” It’s loud, bombastic, and goddam, look at that bum! It’s all up in your face! Right after we see her bum, she heads into the car away from the paparazzi.
If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the music video here:
Then the scene shifts and she is alone in front of her logo. She has golden fangs, like a pimped out vampire, and ends up on a throne.
The song itself is a mix of Hip-Hop and dub-step, and works nicely. The song shows off her overpowering presence as a solo artist, and presents her in such a way as to say, “Look now world, I’m the Baddest Female, here I am.” It was written by Teddy Park, and originally meant for the group, 2NE1. Once Papa YG looked at it however, he decided it would be perfect for CL as a solo artist. Good choice, in my opinion.
The dance, as described in the article about whether she would debut as a solo artist, where Rie Hata tweeted that she was giving CL Dougie lessons, it does quite remind me of the Dougie. Not exactly, it’s just the way the dance is carried out. YG’s female dance group, which have been seen in GD&TOP’s “Knock Out” and G-Dragon‘s “One of A Kind” make an appearance, dancing backup for CL.
With 15 costume changes, along with several set changes (I lost count at 10), this music video doesn’t really have a plot. I could talk about the costumes, but I won’t. Especially with that pink shirt at 2:09. I don’t know what the rest of it says, but I’m sure its…durtaay. Overall, the costumes are loud, colorful and out-there. Everything I expect from YG in 2013.
What I didn’t expect was G-Dragon to wear shorts and a top hat, sporting long hair and waving a pimp stick. That was a surprise, to say the least. But what can I say? It’s G-Dragon. Back to the video.
We once again see YG Family in CL’s video, just as we have in G-Dragon’s solo videos like “One of A Kind” and “MichiGO.” In CL’s video, we see Teddy Park of 1TYM, Choice37, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Masta Wu, just to name a few.
What do you think about her solo debut?
