Huh Gak returns with a digital single called “It Hurts” and again, he is able to deliver a sensational song! Many fans were also quite taken by this song as well as the drama that unfolded within the music video. In astonishment, they made comments like “This is such a great and sad song!” and “The story for the MV makes me want to cry.”
The song is indeed a very heartbreaking ballad; it’s about pain one goes through after breakups and departures. The base of the music for the song is very quiet as it starts out, almost silent. There is a simple bass and a melodious guitar piece in the background that started out the song. The third component that adds to the song’s immensity is a cello piece that assists in furthering the emotional impact of the music, becoming more prevalent during the chorus. Huh Gak then brings it all together by singing the song with very powerful emotions that trickle out slowly and softly at first but eventually engulfing all listeners into its rhapsody.
The music video features Na Eun of A Pink and actor Ahn Yong Joon. The plot of the drama is about a girl who has an illness that causes her to not remember her boyfriend. They were deeply in love but after she got sick, she decides to push him away, not wanting to become a burden. Eventually she began to forget who he was all together. When he discovers her condition, he tries with all his heart to help her recover by spending time with her and telling her about their past together. However, just as soon as things seem to be looking up, the sum of her medical bills pressure him to commit robbery and extortion. The music video then closes with Na Eun being taken into the surgery room as Yong joon smiles with relief even though he himself ends up arrested.
I think that this single is really good; the only thing I have a problem with is Huh Gak’s overuse of vibrato and note vocalizations. I love his voice, don’t get me wrong, and I do agree that his level of singing does express the emotions of the song well. I’d just prefer it if Huh Gak sung the song in a softer and simpler manner. Sure, this may not be his style of singing but if the song was sung in a softer tone, I believe the feeling of pain and heartbreak may have seem more real and easier for the audience to grapes.
However, that’s just me being selective. Either way, this song was fabulous. Have a listen for yourself and watch the music video.
