The ‘Sexy Diva‘ herself, IVY has made her comeback with “I Dance,” featuring the Wonder Girls‘ member, Yubin.
Check out the music video below:
This song is a trip. An experimental song written by JYP, its a fusion of electronica, tango, and apparently hip-hop. Though I didn’t really hear any hip-hop. If Yubin’s part was supposed to represent that, it was done poorly. The rap was disjointed and seemed misplaced. The song really could have done without it. I like Yubin, just not in this song. Her costume and the way she danced were phenomenal, but not her rap.
The video starts off, showing IVY pitifully backed up in a corner, and in another frame, dancing freely. Showing the contrast of the song’s message of a woman wanting to be free of her pain by dancing it away.
It also shows her in a tiny metal box, and tied up in front of cameras, showing her lack of freedom and her struggle to escape the harsh glares of the cameras.
I loved how when she was in the brick room, you know the one. The one we’ve seen in almost every other music video this year. She bursts through a door frame, but is held back by ribbons, as she struggling to escape. You can really feel the emotion in that scene. It was beautifully done. That is, until the editing kicked in.
I have to say it. The editing in this video sucks. This video, is for the most part, beautifully done. The sets, the costumes, the concept, all are perfect. But that editing is about to give me a seizure. I’m not even joking. It jumps around, flashes almost constantly, goes in and out of those bar transitions and all the shaking and moving around is giving me motion sickness.
Speaking of costumes, I loved IVY’s tango dress. She could have done without those cuffs, but she’s IVY and she can do as she damn well pleases. You rock those weird sleeve cuffs honey! Another thing is her nude bathing suit costume with the black straps all around it. Very nice. When she was tied up with the red rope and you could see her red pumps and fully see the outfit in all its glory, it was wonderful. Nice touch.
Also, when she’s in that room with all the mirrors, her fluffy black dress is so beautiful and elegant! But oh, what should I say about her metal box costume? The spiky turtle-neck-ish torture bathing suit. Don’t your thighs hurt? Ouch! Worst bathing suit choice ever.
Overall, I loved the concept, the song was nice, but it didn’t need Yubin’s rap, the costumes and choreography were great, and I think I’m going to hurl now because of all the effects.
