After teasing fans with his live performance of the song a couple of weeks back, ballad singer and pop idol John Park has finally released the digital single and music video for “Childlike”. This track was written and composed by the singer himself while Lee Juk, a good friend of his, plays the piano piece as an accompaniment for the song. “Childlike” is actually featured in the upcoming movie, “Wolf Boy” and the MV has scenes and clips from the film, depicting actors Song Joong Ki and Park Bo Young playing their respective roles.
The song is a soft and sweet ballad, quite simply composed with sincere emotions flowing through the lyrics. The song is about a person who feels they are unable to love their significant other due to uncontrollable obstacles and outside sources that have come in between them. The scenes in the music video meld perfectly with the song, illustrating the complexity and emotional essence of the film.
Although “Childlike” is not as powerful or as heart wrenching compared to other sad songs, the key that made the song such a success is the lyrics. They are more honest and deep, being able to reach the hearts of most people. In most cases, I feel that people seem to put themselves down when it comes to relationships, always saying things like “I’m not good enough.” or “It was my fault.” This is translated perfectly with the use of the song in combination with the movie clips from the music video and therefore, it is able to capture the hearts of the audience even if the actual song is not that great. Regardless of what I think, “Childlike” did a great job as it help promote for the movie and I’m actually very excited for the film. Have a listen for yourself and tell us what you think?
