It’s been ages since Lexy has made any sort of appearance in the music industry but after four long years of hiatus, she returns with a new single named “Nolza”! After she left YG Entertainment, the female soloist signed with Red Line Entertainment and joined forces with several notable people in the industry for this comeback. Kim Do Hyun the composer, David Kim the lyricist, and JC Kim Ji Eun the vocalist came together to work on this project with Lexy, making the song quite extraordinary!
“Nolza” obviously has its roots in Hip Hop with that strong and prevalent bass line in the background. Even though there are loud and somewhat distracting electronic beat sequences in the song, I like that the bass still shines through which harmoniously pulls the song together. Now as for Lexy; my goodness, I LOVE her! She has always been one of my most favorite female MCs. Aside from her dominantly cool and for the lack of a better term, swag personality, her voice is also a main reason as to why I like her so much. There’s this huskiness to her voice that is so sexy and I love that it’s deep, powerful enough to carry the lyrics through when she spits and bust out rhymes unlike most idol rappers.
The song is about partying it up, a celebration for her return. The music video consists of Lexy rocking it out with a group of people who are dancing around all over the place giving the music video a strong club feel even though there really isn’t a club scene. So I conclude with this, the music vdeo is extremely typical and there’s nothing special about it. I was expecting so much more since she’s had such a long absence and looked forward to something new and exciting that would have left me speechless but no, there was none of that. It seems to have been shot just for the sake of having a music video and there is no actual real story being told in it. With that said, I guess it did serve the purpose of allowing the audience to enjoy Lexy’s face, presence, and performance.
Even though I was disappointed with the visual aspect of her comeback, I like the song and I think highly of her. Maybe it would have been better if she was still with YG because they would have been promoted a lot better and the quality of her comeback could have been infinitely better. However, regardless of that fact, she is still a talented artist that should be appreciated and remembered. Support this leading lady, one of the original Queens of Hip Hop by getting her single “Nolza”.
