DSP’s newest girl group Puretty has released their very first single “Cheki Love” in Japan. This is because the group was set to debut first in Japan and then in South Korea soon after. This song is unique in the fact that it is actually used as the theme song for a Japanese anime called “Pretty Rhythm” which actually based on the girls’ lives. The anime focuses on Puretty’s lives and their development from trainees to major idols.
“Cheki Love” is sung in Japanese and fits well as a theme for an anime series. It is as Bubblegum as any Pop song can get; extremely happy, cheerful, and upbeat. The song is about fully expressing the love one may have for their significant other and hoping that they will return those feelings. There are actually two music videos for the song, a short one featuring the anime while the other is the full length version featuring Puretty’s sunbaes, Nicole and Seungyeon of Kara and Seungyub of A-Jax. Since the girls are very young, the oldest is 18 and the youngest being 14, they also display an overwhelming amount of cuteness and aegyo.
Overall, I feel that this group has potential to something great if DSP chooses to further enhance their image and actually put effort into promoting them. In regards to this song, it’s alright but not great. Just not my cup of tea I guess. The girls also sound a bit awkward singing in Japanese so if they were to continue practicing, they will probably get better in time. How do you feel about it?
