After the success of their summer single “Paparazzi” back in June, SNSD recently released a new single called “Oh! / All My Love is for You.” The single contains two tracks, a Japanese remake of their 2010 Korean single “Oh!” and a whole new song called “All My Love is for You.” Even though this single contains only two songs, one can tell how strongly SNSD stands in the world of music with the achievements their songs manage to pull. These two songs ranked highly on Japanese music charts like the Oricon’s Daily Single chart and sold over 66,000 copies on the first week of their release. Although this single doesn’t contain much, it’s definitely a great teaser for their next full length Japanese album, hyping Sones all over the world.
Just like the original, “Oh” is a flirty and extremely catchy song. Although I do like the Korean version better due to my own personal preferences, this version managed to stay in my mind all day too. The MV is again inspired by an academic and institutional atmosphere but instead of a high school theme, the girls seemed to have entered college. In a way, this MV mirrors SNSD’s own personal growth not only as a group and as artists, but as individuals as well after being in the industry for the last six years.
“All My Love is for You” has a mid tempo and it is very soft, a sharp contrast in mood and tone when compared with “Oh.” It is certainly still a Pop song but one can also compare it to a ballad due to the vocal arrangement of the song. However, since this song is sung in Japanese, some of the girls conformed to the Japanese style of singing which sounds more nasally and I personally do not find it tasteful. The music video consists of the girls just sitting together and singing; it’s rather simple but very prettily done and SNSD looks as flawless as always.
The songs in this single are not particularly spectacular but they are well put together and I do like the new song. However I was kind of hoping for more; rather than just a remake, I wish there were at least three new tracks or something. If you are a Sone then by all means, grab “Oh! / All My Love is for You” before it is sold out but if you’re not a Sone, I’d recommend for you to just wait until it is released with the full album.
