A Pink‘s Eunji is always something to wait for when it comes to dramas and she is probably the main reason why most people (me included) began to watch “Trot Lovers.” However, the first two episodes proved that this drama has much more than that in order to become one of the best of the year.
To give you a sneak peek and, maybe, make you want to watch it, we have decided to make a review on the first two episodes of this exciting drama. This article might contain some spoilers though, so if you do not mind reading them, just highlight the article, like in our “K-MOVIE NIGHT” article about “A Frozen Flower.”
“Trot Lovers” has a lot of elements that remind of other dramas, but this is probably one of the things that make it so good. In the first episodes, we were able to spot the poor dad who is in trouble for owning money to someone (like in “Marry me, Mary!“), the haughty superstar portraied by Ji Hyun Woo (like BEAST‘s Junhyung in “Monstar“) and the cute little sister portraited by Yoo Eun Mi (which is common in many dramas like “Wonderful Days” and “Take Care of Us, Captain“).
However, what makes this drama really good is how it is different from others. When I first heard about a drama about trot, I honestly did not feel much because I do not like trot at all. But once we see how much it matters to Choi Choon Hee (Eunji) and listen to the songs carefully, it is impossible not to enjoy it. If you want to know what I am talking about, check out one of the musical scenes below (SPOILER ALERT):
Eunji, also, was a true revelation. We all know how great her acting and singing skills are and it is almost like the character was created just for her, but what really impressed me was hearing her singing trot. I did not know her vocal skills go that far. Not to mention that she is really cute!
While the main characters do not bring anything new to the K-drama world, the side ones are surely something to pay attention to.
The guys who Choon Hee’s father owns money to turned out to be really funny characters in a way that I did not expect. After her father runs away, she is left with her little sister and the guys, who wanted to kill her and bury Jang Joon Hyun in the beginning, began to support her musical career after finding out about the audition. I believe they will end up growing love for the Choi sisters and taking care of them until their father comes back.
Another interesting character is Park Soo In (Lee Se Young) whose real intentions I am having a really hard time finding out. She seems really in love with Joon Hyun in the beginning, but she changes after his hotel scandal. Is it true love or is she using him to level-up her career? Also, for some reasons, of all the characters I believe she is the one more likely to be the one who is threatening Joon Hyun with the medal thing.
And where on Earth is Choon Hee’s father? He is very similar to Mae Ri‘s father in “Marry Me, Mary!” so will he cause that much of trouble to her? Am I the only one who can already see the moment when she gets a lot of money and he comes back and then they argue because he cannot simply show up like that just because she has become rich?
“Trot Lovers” airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:55pm KST and the first two episodes, as well as some of the mentioned dramas, are available on Dramafever, so if you have not checked it out yet, make sure to do it as soon as possible!
