After the release of their third Japanese single “Dear My Friend,” U-Kiss also released a new Japanese single titled “One of You.” It is also the last project that U-Kiss member AJ was able to participate in before he left to the United States to go attend Colombia University. Even though this single was not a Korean one, all Kiss Mes would probably really treasure this song for that reason. There are five tracks total in the album, two of them being instrumentals. The second track is actually the Japanese remake of their 2011 Christmas special, “Kiss Me Forever” while the third track is the live version of previously released “Forbidden Love”.
The first track is the title song “One of You.” It clearly begins with a synthesized bass and the electronic arrangement becomes more apparent later in the song. Overall, the sound of this track is very cheerful and immersed with high spirits. Although it may be simple, my favorite line in the song is “Like a small flower blooming in the asphalt, be strong” and this line solely represents the entire song. It is a song about taking charge of one’s own life and being proud of it. When people choose to believe in themselves, they can change the world and paint the future with their dreams. Even if their life only plays a small role in this world, their very existence is a positive thing and they must realize this.
My only criticism is that the music video for the song does not fit the song at all. I was expecting a music video that utilizes the natural and urban surroundings present in everyday life, with the members freely wondering about and joyfully singing about the appreciation of life. However, what we get is a dimly lit indoor shoot. It was odd to see the members smile and jump around on such a gloomy set. The ending of the music video was also very abrupt. The music video director should have done things differently.
The other two songs were just as lovely as their original counterparts. Japanese Kiss Mes definitely got a kick out of hearing “Kiss Me Forever” in their own language; it’s such a sweet song that expressed U-Kiss’s gratitude for their fans, it makes me wish for an English one as well. The live version of “Forbidden Love” was also able to display U-Kiss’s vocal ability perfectly, leaving listeners in awe at hearing such great voices.
Although this single was short and simple, I can say that it was enough to keep my attention. I personally cherish it a lot especially since this was AJ’s last project with the group. Until his return, please help the group by acquiring “One of You” as well as supporting their future endeavors.
