VIXX and their ‘Otherworldliness’ has returned to us with their latest release, “Hyde.”
Check it out if you haven’t already:
As expected from the previous teasers, it has an overall creepy vibe to it. And how can it not? What else do you think of when someone mentions Hyde, other than the scientist with a severe case of being bi-polar. And that theme is quite evident in the video. You know, after you get past the maggots in the skull, the snake, the random lizard and of course, the tarantula.
I’m sorry, but I can’t help commenting on their Engrish. Does it bother me? No, I expect it. Especially from rookie groups. Do I enjoy it? Definitely. “New Generation is back.” Good for them. “Yeah, we killin’ this track right now.” Not really, but your Engrish sure is (p.s. I actually had to look that line up. I couldn’t understand him). “We started from the bottom, but we just do it now, eh~ just follow.” Follow where?
Anywho, once the song actually starts, it’s pretty funky, I like it. The members switch back and forth between white and black outfits, good vs evil, light vs dark, etc. to show the contrast of their characters.
The song is great. The choreography is fantastic. The cinematography, priceless. What I mean by that is, I totally understand the message of the song and video, they correspond with each other wonderfully.
When Ravi was rapping, I assume he was supposed to look posessed. It just looked like he was going to be sick. But when N‘s wings burst out of his back, and he gave her that, “Oh yea, I’m a demon, what of it?” look, I died laughing. It was perfect.
May I mention at the 3:05 mark that uh…that is some pretty interesting graphic placement. Yep.
The video overall was an improvement over their last one. Their acting needs a bit of work, but their rookies so I’ll cut them a break. Those visuals…note to self, don’t eat before watching this. Ew. Bad decision. Message received.
