Universal Music, the largest music company in the world, had not until 2013 put it’s hands into the K-Pop music industry on it’s own.
Of course if you’ve been listening to K-Pop for a while you probably know that Universal Music Japan promotes for such names as BIGBANG, Infinite, Rainbow and SHINee when they perform in Japan, so they are not completely unfamiliar with handling the K-Pop style group.
Taking their first steps into K-Pop with Boys Republic, Universal Music are surely hoping for a long and lucrative future with these five boys.
Apparently though, it isn’t only the future of Universal Music that the CEO is worried about. In an interview with MyDaily the members of the group revealed that their CEO had opened savings accounts for each of them. It was later revealed that it had been the CEO’s idea and had surprised both the boys and the staff with the gesture. The 5 year savings accounts were the CEO’s way to show he was thinking about the boys future knowing that it can take a year or two for a group to take off and even than there was no guarantee that Boys Republic would do well so he wanted them to have something to fall back on. The gesture so touched the members that in gratitude they hugged the CEO, causing him to turn red, and it has given them that much more determination to work harder to succeed.
Not only has the CEO made sure to take care of the boys future but in preparing for the boys debut Universal Music made sure to do their homework. They hired composer Park Geun-tae (worked with Wheesung, Jay Park and ZE:A) to help produce the album as well as Jung Hae-ik (H.O.T and g.o.d) to manage the group, throw in 2 years of training and you have a solid base to debut with.
On June 5th, 2013 the public got their first full look at what Boys Republic was going to be bringing to the table. Releasing the music video for their debut track “Party Rock,” Boys Republic debuted with boy next door charms and a catchy electronic dance song. Check it out here.
