On November 30th, Mnet Asian Music Awards 2012 (MAMA), which was held at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, marked the most anticipated event for all K-Pop fans that gathered together from all over the world (some watched it through livestreams on the net). All watched to witness the 2012 awards ceremony and most of all the performance of their favorite artists.
Before the event happened, a lot of presumptions were being discussed among fans on which groups will have collaboration and what songs they will perform. A day before the event, there were rumors going around that EXO will perform “Mirotic” by TVXQ and when they heard about it, fans were getting more excited to see EXO perform their sunbaes’ song. The excitement of the fans just kept increasing and when the time came for the big day, MAMA 2012, everyone got to see EXO and SHINee collaborate on a performance.
I asked some of my fellow K-Pop friends these questions about their performance, (1) How did you find the performance of EXO and SHINee combine? (2) What do you think of their clothes? And (3) Do you want to see more collaboration of EXO and SHINee in the near future? Most of their answers, including mine, were almost the same.
Without further ado, I’ll give you now my thoughts about their “awesome” performance!
First question: How did you find the performance of EXO and SHINee combine?
EXO and SHINee’s performance was truly amazing and spine-tingling, and to think that EXO, as rookies, would share a stage with SHINee who are their sunbaes. They created a really powerful and awesome stage! The flow of their performance was really smooth. We can also see the teamwork with the two groups as well as their individualities as two different groups. I may be biased, but for me, I absolutely love their performance! You don’t even want to blink or you might miss out such important details while they are performing.
EXO performed their hit song, “MAMA.” This is the first time that both groups performed the song together and not separately, like EXO-K first then EXO-M. We also saw Tao’s famous “wushu”, their addictive break dance, D.O.’s high notes and their famous ‘step’ of “MAMA”.
The performance which really made me spazz so much was EXO’s performance of TVXQ’s “Mirotic.” Kris, Tao, Baekhyun, Sehun, Xiumin and Kai were the ones who got to perform the song. Even though it’s not the whole song they performed but with that short performance, it made many fangirls out there spazz to the highest level. Even myself, I almost forgot to breathe when they performed it, especially when my bias, Kris, had a “very short” solo where the other members bowed down. They really looked so handsome, sexy and hot while performing the said song. I love the part where it was Kai’s part when he smiled and then made a “full turn”, I found it cool. The second time I watched their performance, I don’t know if you all saw it, but during the time where Kris and Kai should do a “high-5,” Kris accidentally knocked off Kai’s watch and Baekhyun tried to catch it but failed. Yet, they still continue the show like nothing happened, as what all professional artists should do.
After “Mirotic,” Chen, Luhan, Lay, Suho, D.O. and Chanyeol performed SHINee’s “Lucifer.” Just like their sunbaes, they performed the song amazingly. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who noticed Chen’s cute mispronunciation of ‘Lucifer,’ instead of the correct pronunciation; he pronounced it as “lushifer.” I was distracted by it the first time I heard it and yet I still found Chen to be so cute. The next time I will listen to the song, I’m sure I will remember Chen’s ‘lushifer.’
Then SHINee joined EXO in dancing “Lucifer.” After, SHINee performed “Sherlock” but before that, they had a really smooth transition to the next song, I’m sure you know what I mean, right? EXO surrounded SHINee members for them to prepare for their next song, which is “Sherlock.” In this song, they made a little change in the middle where Jonghyun’s powerful high notes were presented.
Second question: What do you think of their clothes?
When EXO appeared, I was really surprised because their outfit really stood out; especially because they used color red and black. For me, these two colors made them look more hot and sexy; also it’s a really nice combination. Maybe one of the reasons why they were having two colors are to make the audience know where EXO-K and EXO-M is. SHINee members wear clothes in different colors as to also distinguish them from the other group. Anything they wear when performing, they really know how to pull it off, just like any professional artists.
Third question: Do you want to see more collaboration of EXO and SHINee in the near future?
YES. YES. YES and YES!!! I absolutely want to see them have more collaboration in the future and perform together in one stage, I’m pretty sure Shawols and EXOtics alike will agree with me in this one. Both groups are great in dancing and with their vocals together, I think they can perform anything. Personally, I want SHINee to perform EXO’s “Mama” and “History,” then EXO will perform SHINee’s “Lucifer”, “Sherlock” and also “Ring Ding Dong.” I really want to see both groups perform these songs. It’s okay if they won’t perform the whole song but at least we can see them dance each other’s songs.
I won’t deny the fact that their performance was truly amazing. But there’s only ONE THING that I don’t like in this live performance—the cameraman! This is purely my opinion; it’s understandable that since it’s live, so of course the crowd or the audience will be included in the video, however, it’s so distracting especially when the part that should be videoed was what most fans expecting and yet, the camera was directed to the audience instead to the performers. Not only that, cameramen should know how to focus important parts of the performance and not just randomly. And if ever they will focus the audience, it should be at the maximum of 2 seconds. Don’t you find it quite bothersome, or am I just the only one? People who were in the event didn’t have any problems, but to those who watched through livestreams find it “quite” unfair. Below are two examples where I find that the cameraman should focus on the “correct” or, should I say, on the “appropriate” angle.
(In this photo, it’s Luhan’s part singing his line and yet, it didn’t focus on him or at least, he was captured at the center of the camera. The first time I saw this, I found it quite difficult to see who was singing.)
(Pardon me for being bias here because of Kris. At first I was happy that the camera was focused on Kris but then he suddenly directed it below and this is just my thinking that he took advantage of Kris’ height since he is tall that even in this view he can still be seen, well he is, but only his head. ^^)
Over all, the performance was breath-taking! Both groups’ songs are so addictive that it will make you go to “LSS” mode. Not just the song, but also their performance is so amazing that I’ve lost count on how many times I watched it.
EXO & SHINee’s collaboration + their dancing + their singing + their cool outfits = DAEBAK PERFORMANCE!
