After been cast in roles in ‘G.I. Joe‘ as well as ‘Red 2‘, Lee Byung Hun was interviewed about how he feels venturing out into Hollywood and starting to slowly build a name for himself.
On KBS 1TV‘s ‘News Line‘, he was told, “Now, they’ll think of Lee Byung Hun when they think of Asian actors“, and he was compared to Jackie Chan. However, the actor stayed humble and said, “I respect Jackie Chan a lot. I’ve only been in 3 movies. I’m not at that level. I’m like a rookie. I’m looking forward to showing other parts of me.”
He also talked about the stereotypes the public and the Hollywood industry have of Asian actors, as he said, “In Hollywood, people think that Asian male actors can only kick. But I think that we can not only do that, but even more. I want to think optimistically and see it as having many chances.”
He added, “I do a variety of genres in Korea. If I get a chance, I want to do a variety of genres in Hollywood, too. From certain perspectives, people see Asian actors doing martial arts action movies in Hollywood as a negative thing. But I think optimistically. I think of it like us having something that we can do that they can’t.”
