On July 5th, the Korean superstar Lee Min Ho arrived in Manila for his first concert tour, ‘My Everything.’
Earlier on that day, a press conference was held at the newly inaugurated Bench Tower at the Bonifacio Tower at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, where he was also present during the ribbon-cutting.
When asked to explain the concert’s and album’s title, Lee explained that the title of the album referred to the fans. He said, “The album is a gift to the fans. Because [my] fans are [my] everything.”
2013 marked Lee Min Ho’s 7th year anniversary in show business. He was asked to say seven words that will describe how the years have been, where he ended blurting out six words and these are “fans,’ “project,” “relationship,” “the Philippines,” “album,” and “Bench endorsement.”
He was also asked to mention the distinct pleasure he got from singing, something he did not get from acting. He shared, “When I’m acting, it’s usually in a TV show, it takes a lot of time for me to shoot it and then it airs so I don’t get to watch the TV shows with my fans.” He continued, “As opposed to when I’m singing, I’m on stage, the immediate response I get when I’m singing was really something else. The happiness I get from that is extraordinary.”
Lee said that there was not much difference in comparing singing to acting because both involve thinking and being on a scene. When he’s singing, he said, “I’m almost like I’m acting and then I’m singing the lyrics.”
When he was asked about the production of his ‘My Everything’ album, he remarked that his album was influenced by his musical preference. He said, “My fans probably know that I prefer slow ballads to sing.” Despite his liking to ballads, he wanted to ‘mix it up’ with upbeat tracks. He also shared that the album was another way of developing a different aspect of himself, “My singing needs a bit of work. The album is a way of being able to work on that aspect of my career,” said Lee.
Upon being asked about his status as a Benchsetter, a term for the global ambassadors of the Filipino brand Bench, Lee said that the brand was very caring. He said, “Bench really paid attention to the detail and nature of events I am invited to so that my fans would know what’s going on.” He also said that he was “very privileged to be part of the Bench Family.”
He was then asked to describe his relationship with his fans, and he shared, “There is no word to encapsulate my fans.” To him, his fans are his friends, family, and most of all, his everything. He added, “The communication with my fans has deepened. I’m grateful for that.”
Lee was also asked about what the local fans should expect in his concert. His answer? Butt-dancing! No matter how eager the Filipino press in the venue was, Lee refused to show even a teensy-bit of his butt-dancing. Although he did not confirm the inclusion of that dance in his concert’s antics, he urged the press to go to the concert for them to find out.
He also mentioned that he have been into different cities and had noticed that global fans were unanimous in saying that dancing does not fit him. He said, “The response to my dancing isn’t that great.”
Now, it is the Filipino fans’ turn to judge whether to side with these global fans or not.
Earlier during the interview, Lee expressed his delight upon returning to the Philippines. He commented, “What sets Manila apart is the sea, the beach, and the islands. Filipino fans are also passionate. When I look into the eyes of Filipino fans, they are very innocent.” In the later question, when asked to describe his Filipino fans, Lee said they are “very passionate.” He felt that the fans reflect the beauty of their islands that make up their archipelago. The romantic femininity in this reflection, said Lee, was mirrored by the fans.
Lee is looking forward to showing a different side of him to his Filipino fans. The fans are as excited as well.
This is the second time Lee has visited the Philippines. The country is part of Lee’s first concert tour “My Everything”. It is 10-leg tour, which includes cities like Seoul, Osaka, and the US. His Manila concert will happen on July 6th, 2013 at 8 PM at the Mall of Asia Arena.
