On June 10th, Cube Entertainment‘s newest girl group, LIGHTSUM made their official debut with the single, album, ‘Vanilla’. With a build-up of teasers ahead of the group’s debut, the group becomes the company’s next girl group since (G)I-DLE in 2018. Check out their MV down below!
LIGHTSUM ‘VANILLA’ MV:
Lyrically, the girls wish to grab the listeners into their sweetness. Being in their dreams, they ask to fall for their charms to enjoy moments together. The pop dance track features a catchy bright melody along with an EDM breakdown for the chorus, similar to what would be found in the theme songs of Mnet’s Produce series, particularly ‘Pick Me’ from the first season of the show.
Watching the MV, the octet transport us to their dessert pastel world. As the girls scoop ice-cream complete with sprinkles, and prepare presents on a conveyor belt, the song transitions to a trap rap and chorus breakdown. Gone are the cutesy pink outfits, replaced with street style pants and plaid. Here we truly see the dancing abilities and duality of the group’s concept. This duality continues throughout the remainder of the music video.
The group is made of eight members; Sangah, Chowon, Nayoung, Hina, Juhyeon, Yujeong, Huiyeon, and Jian. Notably, member Chowon was well-known pre-debut with her participation on Mnet‘s ‘Produce 48’, placing #13 in the final and ultimately just missing out a spot in the 12-member project group, IZ*ONE. With the members ages ranging from 14-17, we can probably expect the group to retain their fresh concept whilst having their edge in future releases. Coming from Cube Entertainment, it will be fascinating to see their musical sound and progression.
LIGHTSUM‘s single album, ‘Vanilla’ is available now.
