Malaysian pop-punk band, Bunkface drew backlash for their comments in a Malay celebrity talk show Propaganza.
The controversial comments were made in Propaganza season 1, episode 5 aired around April 25, 2012. No question on K-pop was asked by the host. Starting from 7:20 in the video, these remarks were made by the band members:
Sam: Fans, don’t listen to K-pop. Do you know they are miming? They are miming, they do plastic surgery, then we go on budget but they look handsome.
Youk: All of us work hard for our band, work hard to find chords for our song, going through a steep learning curve, but they [K-pop artists] just dance and put on make up, the next thing is million of dollars. We are jealous.
Paan: Support local artists, they are way better. If you can’t afford to get married, then what’s the use of giving your money to the Koreans?
The episode continues to rake in views to date. Netizens who viewed the video left comments like, “Do your research before leaving comments like that,” “Malaysian artists are rude,” and “They didn’t admit that they are copycats of Western artists”
Earlier in November, Korean idol groups Nu’est and Vixx were attacked on stage while performing the closing act of Malaysian entertainment award show Shout! Awards.
