On June 29th, MAMAMOO‘s HWASA released the MV for her title track, ‘Maria’, off her 1st mini album of the same name. Check it out below!
HWASA ‘MARIA’ MV:
The song talks about the handling of criticism, having no strength to fight back. But, has the uplifting message just asking the haters to leave, not to torture yourself with the hate and accept yourself being beautiful the way you are. The song itself has an upbeat yet almost sad feeling beat that works well with the soloist’s sultry vocal tone.
Moving on to the MV, we first see the singer sitting in the middle of a crime scene in a bathtub. She is moved into a mental institution. But is serving raw organs as a waiter, whilst covered in blood to the diners. Next, she is hooked up to devices measuring her heart rate and monitoring her before she retreats to a corner of the room after visualising flying daggers being targeted towards her. The MV ends on a happier tone, with a surprise appearance of the other MAMAMOO members comforting the singer.
Throughout the MV, there are many snippets of the choreography for the track. It is powerful and confident as expected which is elevated with the sheer number of backup dancers and multiple outfit changes, including some nude-toned outfits, as well as sexier black silky outfits.
HWASA‘s 1st mini album, ‘Maria’, includes a total of seven tracks. This includes this title, and previously released debut single, ‘Twit’ released back in February 2019. The album is available now.
