On Tuesday 21st May Blackpink was in the Manchester Arena to perform to a full house of Blinks, eager to see their idols perform their hit songs. Before the concert started a notice was placed on screen in memoriam of those that lost their lives at the Ariana Grande concert in 2017. The message was made even more poignant due to the closeness of the anniversary to the event, almost two years to the day of the tragic event.
The concert started with the popular new track ‘Forever Young’ and was followed by ‘Stay’ and ‘Whistle’ with the crowd dancing and singing along to their favourite hits. The opening was followed by solos that showcased the girls individual skills from Rosé’s rendition of The Beatles – Let it Be, to Lisa’s outstanding dancing.
The stages moved and changed with various light shows and stage lifts that provided an extraordinary spectacle but above all else the singing and the choreography shone through. After costume changes the girls came back to continue the barrage of hit songs, highlighting just how many hits this young group have had since debut. Undoubtedly the crowds biggest reaction came when the opening riff of ‘Kill This Love’ started, a song that has smashed YouTube records.
As the show came to an end the girls sat quietly on stage and Rosé began to speak once more of the tragedy from two years earlier. After an emotional and touching speech the girls again started to sing ‘Stay’, a song packed full of emotion especially given the connotations for those effected by the incident two years previously.
The energy and devotion pouring from the crowd will surely mean that we will be seeing more popular acts coming to the UK and hopefully Blackpink will return soon to satisfy the ever devoted Blinks.
