MBLAQ, a group which has been consistently amazing their fans with original music, is finally back with their comeback!
“Smoky Girl” holds a music video quite unique compared to the recent comebacks from other groups. This video starts off with a black and white image, with a beat a bit slower than some would expect. But as the video progresses, the black and white disappears and neon appears on the screen, much similar to their music video from 2010 titled “Y“. Not to mention, the beat and tempo of the song becomes more lively, making it catchy to listen to. Since it is much different compared to the other songs coming out lately, it makes MBLAQ stand out for their originality.
Watch the music video here:
The dance is not as lively as some of their previous dances have been, but holds a ton of emotion to accommodate the rhythm. With female dancers being featured throughout the song, the appeal of the song is quite different, it shows more of a sexual appeal, especially when Lee Joon holds a small dance with one of them. The moves remained very polished, the tight hand movements and technical footing were eye catching for sure!
Their new hairstyles were definitely a surprise! Thunder‘s bright pink hair appears to be the most vibrant throughout. The new hairstyles are unlike what the members usually have, making it an enjoyable change for the fans. Their elegant suits are also an excellent touch. The members each look very proper and classic, no awkward apparel!
The lyrical meaning of the song is definitely questionable and quite difficult to understand. The lyrics basically tell a love story about a guy meeting a girl at the bar at two in the morning and falling in love with her. The two dance and take a drink, but the girl doesn’t seem as interested in him as he wants. The guy questions this and realizes from her eyes that she has experienced painful things from love and has scars remaining; he tells her to open up to his heart and to tell him what’s wrong. The girl seems to not want to do so, and he takes note that she simply wants to erase her memories of him, like the previous men who had given her scars. From there, the song repeats, “Smoky Girl”, which could be deciphered to also mean, Mysterious Girl to explain how the girl remains elusive towards him.
An original tune and beat, with vocalists as amazing as always and a powerful dance, MBLAQ has given us a spectacular comeback!
