MONSTA X are back with the release of their sixth mini-album ‘The Connect: Dejavu‘ and the title track ‘Jealousy‘.
The album ‘The Connect: Dejavu‘ tells the story of the seven members who become even more connected through their personal hardships within the cycle of destiny. It contains a total of seven songs, including title track ‘Jealousy‘. Members Jooheon and I.M wrote the lyrics for all the songs on the album. While Wonho co-composed and took part in writing the lyrics for ‘If Only‘, and Jooheon also co-composed ‘Special‘.
The title track ‘Jealousy‘ continues the new found funky dance feel that MONSTA X first delivered to us with last years release ‘Dramarama‘. A lot of people are calling it a reinvention of the group, however, I disagree, it’s more like they’re growing as a group and finding a groove that works for them. This track still incorporates a heavy dose of the hip hop feel that we know and love them for, but it’s melded and blended in with the funky, dance R&B feel of the track.
There’s an 80’s vibe on full display with the vocal hook and a chorus that just won’t give in – it’s instantly catchy and is certainly ‘ear-worm’ worthy. However, it’s the down and dirty pop beat of the instrumental which drives the song forward. The background vocals are just funky enough to give depth and meaning to the track. This is one of the best tracks MONSTA X has ever gifted to us.
Watch MONSTA X in the MV for ‘Jealousy’
The music video itself is rich and full of emotive images. We’ve got the trademark standout choreography combined with a storyline which feeds the theme of the song. The lighting is muted and reflective which adds to the feeling of discontent that the song is conveying. The members are full of their usual swagger and charisma ensuring that you’ll want to watch the clip over and over again!
What do you think of MONSTA X‘s track ‘Jealousy‘? Do you like the music video? Are you fan of this new found ‘dance’ style that the group has adopted, or do you prefer their traditional hip-hop sound? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
