Nam Taehyun has released his solo debut single ‘Star‘ and it is completely stunning.
If you follow my writing, you’ll know that I’m a fan of Taehyun‘s voice and his ability to adapt to different vocal styles.
In this his solo debut track, Taehyun‘s dreamy and ethereal vocal floats above a mesmerising synth pop beat. The style of the song probably fits more in the ‘indie-pop’ genre than we are used to hearing from Taehyun lately. His band, South Club sit firmly in the classic grunge rock genre, so this is a departure from the usual fare of late, but it is a welcome addition to his already impressive back catalogue.
The song was produced by Park Geun Tae and the lyrics were written by indie musician Sunwoo Jung-a. The lyrics are about feeling confused and alone during a dark night and missing a past lover.
In the accompanying MV, Nam Taehyun walks through a dark space with only patches of light and is also outside with the light playing across his features. As he sings ‘I hate the light and the sun too bright’, you can see how the light plays across him. It’s a brilliant and simple clip that brings the lyrics of the song to life.
