TEN has been given the job of closing out the second season of SM Station releases with his track ‘New Heroes‘.
‘New Heroes‘ is an EDM genre, but is not locked solely to it’s genre. It’s a hybrid of EDM, future bass and pop. The song is sung in English, which is a bit of a treat, and is about overcoming hardship to be the best you can be. The track opens with a brassy trumpet synth sample and then builds on TEN‘s pitched down vocal chops. The inclusion of acoustic guitar adds texture to the song and flanks the synths while the percussion elements start slow and build as they lead into the chorus.
The best feature of the song is arguably TEN‘s beautiful vocal arrangement, with his falsetto swarming in the background of his main vocal. It gives the song a feeling of richness and depth that it might otherwise be lacking. The strength of the chorus is built on the repetition of TEN singing ‘We’re the new heroes‘. As his voice soars, the synth drops.
The music video opens with TEN on the sand in front of a beautiful night-time beach. He is shimmering with light under a gossamer sheath which only adds to the mood and feeling of the song. It also adds weight to the phrase that we have seen featured on the teasers ‘the dawn won’t spread the brightest light if there is no darkness’. The colour scheme and lighting of the clip are continued throughout the clip which features beautiful art deco architecture and TEN shining in a number of settings while showing off his sublime choreography.
