Ahead of Lovelyz‘s debut in November of last year, member Seo Jisoo had malicious rumors spread about her, which ended with her not participating in group promotions since then, as well as having to be hospitalized for mental and physical stress.
Woollim Entertainment had mentioned they would be investigating further about the origin of the rumors, and finally, it looks like the netizens responsible for starting these accusations will punished.
On the 8th, Woollim made a statement on the results of that investigation saying, “Accused party A and underaged B were respectively fined a monetary penalty and sent as a juvenile protection case.”
Here is their official statement:
“Hello, this is Woollim Entertainment.
We would like to make a statement regarding the investigation results of internet rumors regarding Lovelyz member Seo Ji Soo of Woollim Entertainment.
Following investigations by the Seoul Western District Prosecutor′s Office and the Ansan Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor′s Office regarding rumors related to Lovelyz′s Seo Ji Soo, accused party A and underaged B were respectively fined a monetary penalty and sent as a juvenile protection case.
It reads in the arraignment, ′With the goal of slandering the victim, the accused damaged the reputation of the victim by publicly revealing that lies were true through an information and communications network.′
We′ve found out through the legal process that this isn′t just a simple defamation case or internet rumors about Seo Ji Soo, but an excessive action of spreading false information with the goal of slandering one individual as well.
As we reach the end to an investigation that caused much pain due to the spreading of false information and slander, Woollim would like to state that the company will take strict and firm action towards malicious defamation of any of the company′s artists online and offline.
