NU’EST’s entertainment company Pledis Entertainment has teamed up with Chinese company YUEHUA Entertainment to become the first Korean/Chinese entertainment company collaboration.
The Chinese version of NU’EST, NU’EST-M will make their official debut during the two companies’ press conference this coming Monday in Beijing. This new group will only be promoting in China and will go from being a 5 member group to a 6 member group with the addition of Chinese singer Jason.
The agencies have decided to release a Chinese version of NU’EST’s most recent single “Sleep Talking” as the new groups debut track.
This is not the first time that a Korean group has stepped onto the stage in China as a specialized group. 12 member boy group EXO breaks into 2 groups for their promotions, EXO K and an EXO M. I believe though, most people will compare this foray more to Super Junior’s own sub unit Super Junior M.
When the group debuted in China back in 2008 they were met with mixed reactions since for this special debut their company decided to add 2 new members to the group. Super Junior had already gone through controversy back in 2006 with the addition of a permanent new member to the then, 12 member line up and many fans were worried that these 2 new Chinese members would also become permanent.
That has not been the case. Zhoumi and Henry both only promoted with Super Junior M, thought Henry recently debuted as a solo singer. The 2 singers do appear and participate in Super Junior concerts quite frequently.
So I hope that even though NU’EST is taking on a new member for this promotion that their fans continue to support the old and new members without any controversy like we have seen in the past.
